About The Position

Backpack Healthcare is growing its Michigan clinical team and is seeking a compassionate, clinically strong Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) for a part-time telehealth practice. This role offers flexibility without sacrificing collaboration and support. Backpack Healthcare provides accessible mental health care to children, teens, and young adults through telehealth. As a clinician-led and minority-owned company, PMHNPs are part of an integrated care team with therapists, psychiatrists, and care coordinators, all focused on supporting the same child and family. Requirements

  • Active, unrestricted Michigan PMHNP license
  • PMHNP-BC board certification
  • Active DEA license
  • Master's or doctoral degree from an accredited PMHNP program
  • Experience with—or a strong interest in—working with children, adolescents, and families
  • Comfort working independently in a telehealth environment
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and genuine empathy
  • Afternoon, evening, and weekend availability is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric care to children, teens, and young adults through telehealth, focusing on evidence-based, family-centered treatment.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and develop diagnostic formulations.
  • Create individualized treatment plans in partnership with patients and families.
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, monitoring effectiveness, safety, and clinical progress.
  • Provide brief supportive interventions and psychoeducation alongside medication management.
  • Collaborate with therapists, psychiatrists, and care coordinators through regular case consultation.
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in the EHR.
  • Educate patients and families about diagnoses, medications, treatment options, and expected outcomes.
