About The Position

TASC is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based treatment for individuals struggling with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and ongoing behavioral healthcare services for individuals receiving treatment for substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. The PMHNP works collaboratively with physicians, therapists, nursing staff, case managers, and recovery support professionals to provide integrated, patient-centered care. This position supports outpatient behavioral health services and plays an essential role in improving patient outcomes through evidence-based psychiatric treatment.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited program.
  • Current, unrestricted Iowa Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) license.
  • Active DEA registration with prescribing authority.
  • Current CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Strong knowledge of psychiatric disorders, psychopharmacology, and substance use disorder treatment.
  • Excellent clinical assessment, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary treatment team.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) or more years of psychiatric or behavioral health prescribing experience.
  • Experience treating individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.
  • Experience providing Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT).
  • Experience in outpatient behavioral health or substance use disorder treatment settings.
  • Knowledge of ASAM Criteria, trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and recovery-oriented treatment.
  • Experience working within Joint Commission-accredited organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for new and established patients.
  • Diagnose and treat mental health and substance use disorders utilizing evidence-based practices.
  • Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications.
  • Provide Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) when clinically appropriate and within scope of practice.
  • Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans based on clinical presentation and response to treatment.
  • Order, review, and interpret laboratory testing and diagnostic studies as appropriate.
  • Provide ongoing medication management and psychiatric follow-up appointments.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment options, and recovery planning.
  • Respond appropriately to psychiatric crises and urgent patient needs.
  • Promote trauma-informed, recovery-oriented care that supports patient engagement and long-term success.
  • Collaborate closely with therapists, counselors, nursing staff, medical providers, and case management.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings.
  • Coordinate care with primary care providers, outside specialists, pharmacies, and referral sources.
  • Support continuity of care through effective communication and timely documentation.
  • Complete timely, accurate, and comprehensive medical documentation within the electronic health record.
  • Ensure compliance with Iowa HHS regulations, DEA requirements, HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, Joint Commission standards, and organizational policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and accreditation readiness activities.
  • Maintain current licensure, DEA registration, and continuing education requirements.
  • Participate in staff meetings, provider meetings, and organizational initiatives.
  • Support evidence-based practices and organizational quality goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
