About The Position

UVA Medical Associates of Louisa is seeking an Autonomous Licensed Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for their practice in Louisa, VA. This is a full-time, outpatient-only position with a schedule of four 10-hour days, Monday through Friday. The role involves providing Advanced Practice Provider services, including the assessment and management of patients in various clinical settings. The practice operates within an integrated behavioral health model within a primary care setting, offering collaborative support from primary care providers, nursing, and care management teams. There is no hospital call or inpatient coverage required.

Requirements

  • Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
  • Current or eligible Virginia Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse licensure.
  • DEA registration and prescriptive authority eligibility.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of psychiatric practice experience preferred.
  • Ability to practice independently and manage a diverse outpatient psychiatric patient panel.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments for adolescents and adults.
  • Diagnose and treat a broad range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and other psychiatric disorders.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based medication management and therapeutic interventions.
  • Prescribe, adjust, and monitor psychotropic medications in accordance with Virginia regulations and clinical best practices.
  • Provide ongoing follow-up care, including symptom management, treatment monitoring, and medication education.
  • Collaborate closely with primary care providers to support integrated patient care and address behavioral health needs within the primary care setting.
  • Coordinate referrals to specialty behavioral health services, counseling, substance use treatment, and community resources as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a patient-centered, team-based care environment.
