About The Position

Backpack Healthcare is growing its Maryland clinical team and is looking for a compassionate, clinically strong Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) who desires the flexibility of part-time telehealth practice while benefiting from collaboration and support. Backpack Healthcare offers accessible mental health care to children, teens, and young adults via telehealth. As a clinician-led and minority-owned organization, their PMHNPs are integrated into a care team that includes therapists, psychiatrists, and care coordinators, all working collaboratively to support children and families. This role is designed for individuals seeking flexibility to supplement existing roles, balance family commitments, or expand their telehealth practice, ensuring the clinical work remains meaningful.

Requirements

  • Active, unrestricted Maryland PMHNP license
  • PMHNP-BC board certification
  • Active DEA license
  • Master's or doctoral degree from an accredited PMHNP program
  • Experience with—or a strong interest in—working with children, adolescents, and families
  • Comfort working independently in a telehealth environment
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and genuine empathy
  • Afternoon, evening, and weekend availability is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric care to children, teens, and young adults through telehealth, focusing on evidence-based, family-centered treatment.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and develop diagnostic formulations.
  • Create individualized treatment plans in partnership with patients and families.
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, monitoring effectiveness, safety, and clinical progress.
  • Provide brief supportive interventions and psychoeducation alongside medication management.
  • Collaborate with therapists, psychiatrists, and care coordinators through regular case consultation.
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in the EHR.
  • Educate patients and families about diagnoses, medications, treatment options, and expected outcomes.
