About The Position

Join Our Team as a Psychiatric APRN! Base Location: Owensboro, KY Schedule: Monday – Friday, Day Shift (40 hours per week) We’re excited to offer an opportunity for a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our Behavioral Health team! This role focuses on providing high-quality mental health care to individuals across the lifespan—supporting patients with diagnosed psychiatric disorders, as well as those at risk. Requirements

  • Licensed as an APRN in the State of Kentucky.
  • Certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
  • Experienced in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, psychotherapy, and medication management.
  • Skilled in patient communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, and trauma-informed care.
  • Comfortable working autonomously while contributing to a supportive team environment.
  • Committed to high standards of documentation, professionalism, and regulatory compliance.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree
  • Licensed in the State of Kentucky as an APRN
  • Certification as a PMHNP
  • DEA Registration
  • Must maintain current BLS or ACLS
  • Good conceptual skills and ability to synthesize multiple view-points into a common purpose.
  • Ability to assess, organize and plan; demonstrated skills in problem identifications and problem solving.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and work independently under general direction.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to function as a team member.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to take the initiative and provide leadership to enhance quality interactions with clients in the community.
  • Computer literate and capable of operating an EMR.

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, psychotherapy, and medication management for patients in collaboration with a supervising physician.
  • Works autonomously while partnering with a multidisciplinary team to support emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and developmental wellness.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental health screenings.
  • Obtain and document detailed patient histories.
  • Formulate differential diagnoses based on clinical findings.
  • Order and interpret appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized, outcome-based treatment plans.
  • Provide individual, family, or group psychotherapy using accepted therapeutic modalities.
  • Design and deliver mental health promotion and illness-prevention interventions.
  • Prescribe, monitor, and manage psychopharmacological treatments.
  • Assess therapeutic response, monitor side effects, and safeguard against drug interactions and toxicities.
  • Work closely with physicians, clinical staff, and community partners to create coordinated care plans.
  • Refer patients for home health or specialty services when appropriate.
  • Advocate for patient needs, analyze barriers to care, and collaborate to improve access and service quality.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical records and treatment documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with all RHCA policies, procedures, and regulatory standards (OSHA, HIPAA, etc.).
  • Participate in organizational quality improvement initiatives, chart reviews, and compliance activities.
  • Serve as an educational resource for patients, families, staff, and the community.
  • Participate in outreach activities, health fairs, community mental health education, and other agency initiatives.
  • Attend clinic and RHCA staff meetings (75% attendance expected).
  • Assist in other clinics as needed.
  • Support organizational goals aligned with mission, quality care, and community health.
  • Maintain a level of staff privileges at a Kentucky hospital approved by the CEO.
  • Participate in all Quality efforts undertaken by the organization.
  • Conform to the standards of care approved by the RHCA Board of Directors under the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Meet/exceed the goals and targets established for the RCHA Quality Improvement Program.
  • Bill for all services and supplies in a compliant manner.
  • Cooperate with RHCA administration in achieving financial and patient care goals.
  • Be a “Team” player, focusing on mission, working in and assisting in the development of a collaborative approach to the care of patients and providing quality medical care.
  • Assist and be involved in projects and programs intended to improve services and the health status of residents in the communities served by RHCA.
  • Ensure CME programs chosen by the providers reflect the needs of the physician, RHCA and the patients.
  • Treat patients and each other in a respectful and courteous fashion.
