About The Position

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP/APRN) provides high-quality, compassionate psychiatric care to clients across the lifespan at Conifer Counseling. This role is responsible for psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, medication management, and supportive psychotherapy, while contributing to a collaborative, team-based care environment. This position plays a key role in expanding access to care in our rural communities and supporting the development of substance use disorder (SUD) and Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT) services. The PMHNP is a self-directed, clinically strong, and community-minded provider who values simplicity, collaboration, and integrity in care. This position requires regular in-person availability in our Conifer, Bailey, and Fairplay offices, with flexibility for telehealth services.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
  • Active Colorado APRN license with prescriptive authority (APN & RXN)
  • Active DEA license (or ability to obtain)
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience
  • Experience with medication management and supportive psychotherapy
  • Ability to work with a broad range of clients, including co-occurring disorders
  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
  • Commitment to high standards of integrity, ethics, and professional practice
  • Willingness to complete administrative responsibilities in alignment with policies
  • Proficiency with or willingness to learn EHR systems

Nice To Haves

  • Experience treating substance use disorders and co-occurring diagnoses
  • Experience with MAT (example: buprenorphine, naltrexone, acamprosate)
  • Familiarity with withdrawal management and harm reduction frameworks
  • Comfort prescribing buprenorphine (X-waiver no longer required)
  • Experience with adult and/or child and adolescent populations
  • Interest in mentoring or supporting newer clinicians

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, and medication management
  • Deliver supportive psychotherapy as appropriate
  • Develop and implement individualized, trauma-informed treatment plans
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation
  • Ensure care meets ethical, legal, and professional standards
  • Assess and treat substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions
  • Prescribe and manage MAT (including but not limited to buprenorphine, naltrexone, acamprosate)
  • Apply harm reduction principles and support clients through recovery
  • Contribute to the development and growth of SUD/MAT programming
  • Participate in case consultation, team meetings, and care coordination
  • Collaborate with therapists, leadership, and community partners
  • Contribute to a positive, respectful, and shared team culture
  • Support a cohesive and professional clinical environment
  • Complete required documentation in a timely and accurate manner
  • Manage administrative tasks such as prior authorizations and leave paperwork
  • Utilize EHR systems effectively and maintain documentation standards
  • Participate in quality improvement and practice-wide systems
  • Maintain a consistent caseload aligned with practice needs
  • Provide a combination of psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and supportive psychotherapy
  • Expected to maintain approximately 40 billable services per week in a full-time role, adjusted based on role balance and program needs

Benefits
