About The Position

The Ohio Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) is seeking a Central Ohio Behavioral Healthcare Psychiatric Nurse Coordinator/Educator. This role involves providing direction for clinical education and development for nursing and direct care staff, assessing patient status and needs, and acting as a lead worker for lower-level nursing staff. The position also includes educating clinical staff, leading assessments of nursing needs and performance, preparing and reviewing records, obtaining and maintaining teaching certifications (BLS, AEGIS, EPIC), coordinating onboarding and training, tracking continuing education, facilitating training on EPIC EHR software, providing patient care, serving as an interdisciplinary team member, attending training sessions and meetings, and counseling patients and their families. This position requires extensive knowledge of professional nursing procedures, psychiatric nursing, employee development and training, and relevant state and federal regulations.

Requirements

  • Current license as registered professional nurse in state of Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Revised Code
  • 12 months experience in psychiatric nursing or delivery of nursing services to persons with developmental disabilities
  • 1 course or 3 months experience in counseling
  • 1 course or 3 months experience in public relations
  • 12 months experience in employee professional development or 12 months experience in nursing education
  • 1 course or 3 months experience in public speaking or effective communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction for clinical education and development for nursing and direct care staff, and for the assessment of patient status/needs
  • Provides clinical direction and acts as a lead worker over lower-level RNs, LPNs, and therapeutic program workers
  • Educates clinical staff and leads the assessment and evaluation of nursing needs and performance
  • Prepares and reviews records and reports (incidents, nursing care plans, shift reports, admissions, discharges, etc)
  • Obtains and maintains proper certifications to teach clinical staff in hospital programs (BLS, AEGIS, EPIC, etc)
  • Coordinates and facilitates onboarding and training of new nursing staff
  • Tracks and coordinates continuing educational needs and recertifications off all nursing and direct care personnel
  • Facilitates training for clinical staff on EPIC electronic health records software
  • Provides/Demonstrates patient care
  • Serves as an interdisciplinary treatment team member
  • Attends, conducts, and participates in in-service training sessions, meetings, and conferences
  • Meets with and counsels patients and their families
