About The Position

Hartford HealthCare’s Behavioral Health Network (HHC BHN) is seeking an exceptional Psychiatric Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with an interest in providing psychiatric assessment, consultation, and treatment for individuals with mental illness and substance use disorders services in inpatient and consult settings at The Hospital of Central Connecticut (HOCC) located in New Britain, CT. This role involves direct patient care on the inpatient psychiatric unit and psychiatric consultations to patients on medical/surgical services. Responsibilities include diagnostic admission evaluations, treatment plans, and pharmacotherapy, as appropriate. The position also requires timely documentation of assessments, clinical interventions, and discharge summaries, as well as monitoring risk indicators and implementing actions to address risk management issues to ensure safety. The APRN will act as a liaison, communicate effectively with various providers and family members, and provide supervision to selected non-physician health professionals. Participation in Medical Staff Committees and meetings is also expected. HHC prioritizes provider development and well-being through the Provider Leadership Development Institute and the Office of Provider Wellness.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care on our inpatient psychiatric unit and psychiatric consultations to patients on medical/surgical services, including diagnostic admission evaluations, treatment plans, and pharmacotherapy, as appropriate.
  • Completes timely documentation of assessments, clinical interventions and discharge summaries and updates records as specified in medical staff regulations.
  • Monitor risk indicators and take action to address risk management issues in a timely manner to ensure client, staff and visitor safety, and to safeguard the Hospital from adverse events. Includes consultation with peers and acting as a resource/consultant to other members of the treatment team.
  • Adheres to prescribing practices that are safe and evidence based. Obtains appropriate and informed consent for medications trials prior to prescribing.
  • Acts as liaison and communicates effectively with other hospital providers, outside providers, primary care physicians, schools and family members as needed.
  • Provide supervision to selected non-physician health professionals.
  • Participates in Medical Staff Committees and meetings as specified in Medical Staff regulations.
