The Mobile Crisis Service, a component of the NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center's Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP), provides outreach to individuals experiencing a psychiatric crisis in Washington Heights, Inwood, and nearby neighborhoods of the Bronx who have been unable to access mental health treatment. The multi-disciplinary team makes home visits to engage individuals, assess their clinical needs, and determine appropriate services. Interventions are made to reduce the immediate severity of the crisis, and referrals are provided to other indicated resources such as outpatient clinics, detox and substance abuse treatment programs, social support services, and psychiatric emergency rooms.
