About The Position

The PSR Teacher at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School/Parish is responsible for providing faith formation and religious education to students enrolled in the Parish School of Religion (PSR) program. This position supports the mission of the Catholic Church by fostering students' spiritual growth, teaching Catholic doctrine, and preparing students to live as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.

Requirements

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church preferred.
  • Knowledge of Catholic doctrine, traditions, and sacramental preparation.
  • Experience teaching, catechizing, or working with children and youth preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to foster meaningful relationships with students and families.
  • Completion of Archdiocesan Safe Environment requirements and background screening.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of the Catholic Church.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach weekly religion lessons aligned with the parish curriculum and Archdiocesan guidelines.
  • Create a welcoming, faith-filled classroom environment that encourages student participation and spiritual development.
  • Teach Catholic beliefs, traditions, sacraments, prayer, scripture, and moral values appropriate to students' grade levels.
  • Prepare students for sacramental programs as assigned, including Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation.
  • Lead students in prayer and participate in liturgical celebrations, retreats, and parish faith formation activities.
  • Maintain classroom discipline using positive behavior management techniques.
  • Track attendance, student progress, and completion of assignments or projects.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, parish staff, and catechetical leadership regarding student needs and program activities.
  • Attend teacher meetings, training sessions, workshops, and safe environment compliance requirements.
  • Serve as a Christian role model through words, actions, and commitment to Catholic teachings.
