About The Position

Leads and directs work teams to process various classes of mail through an automated or manual process to achieve the highest possible qualification of customers' mail in accordance with the standards of the U.S. Postal Service specifications. Assists with the training and orientation of new operators and sweepers. Reviews mail trays prior to processing on the sorting machines to maximize the readability of the mail and identifying obvious reject mail such as invalid, foreign and overweight mail, and puts in designated trays prior to processing. Accurately and timely feeds mail through mail machines in a high speed fashion watching for blockage or stoppage of mail processing. Counts all mail that has been received with an orange piece count sheet and turns information into supervisor. Ensures sort bins are emptied quickly and accurately so the sorting machine can continue sorting with no interruption from jammed pockets. Ensures that sorted mail is stacked correctly in trays and all mail pieces in the tray are facing the labeled end of the tray allowing no folded, bent or upside down mail to enter the tray. Ensures that sorted mail is put in proper trays and accurately tagged according to proper destination. Reviews mail not properly sorted or reject mail to determine the readability of the mail. Ensures proper distribution of invalid, reject and five digit mail with other operators. Keeps technicians and supervisor informed of all malfunctions or changes in machine performance and readability problems. Processed mail in accordance with established standards to maximize quality in accordance with U.S. Postal Services, customers' and Company standards. Troubleshoot machine jams on the machine and notifies sweepers of jams. Accurately adjusts settings on machines to reach maximum efficiency. Assist technicians in minor maintenance issues. Demonstrates proficiency on computer software of the sorting machine. If assigned, prepares postal paperwork. Watches for suspicious letters and immediately notifies Management of anything out of the ordinary. Keeps work area neat and clean. Abides by all safety rules. Abides by all guidelines and rules as contained in the Employment Handbook. Maintains positive customer, vendor and employee relations. Promotes proper Company image. Maintains confidentiality of all information. Keeps supervisor informed of all pertinent issues. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements
