About The Position

PSG tech/RRT I at Cincinnati Children's is responsible for assessing patients, clients, and families, planning and prioritizing care, and collecting clinical data to make appropriate decisions during sleep study testing. The role involves meticulous documentation of observations and patient status, demonstrating competence in technical skills, and implementing patient care standards. This position also requires systems thinking to understand and improve the healthcare environment, ensuring regulatory compliance and safety. The therapist will coordinate respiratory care, monitor workload and staffing, and function as a professional sleep/respiratory therapist applying theoretical knowledge to patient care across various age groups. Continuous professional growth and development are expected.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a related field
  • 0+ years of work experience in a related job discipline
  • RT License
  • Registered RT

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients, clients, and families, recognizing normal parameters and deviations in physical, emotional, developmental, and behavioral status related to cardio-pulmonary needs using a family-centered approach.
  • Plans and prioritizes care to meet patient, client, and family needs.
  • Collects clinical data, utilizes decision trees and guidelines, and matches formal knowledge with clinical events to make appropriate decisions during sleep study testing.
  • Demonstrates compliance with established practices in documentation, recording routine observations, changes in procedure, and significant events.
  • Provides thorough documentation during data collection through real-time comments and narrative notes.
  • Follows procedures to establish and document baseline values (e.g., body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, end-tidal carbon dioxide values, respiratory and heart rates).
  • Demonstrates competence in implementing technical skills for patient care according to CCHMC policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Identifies goals and outcomes for health with the patient, client, and family.
  • Directs interventions towards the attainment of goals and outcomes related to cardio-pulmonary health.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of care.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking by making appropriate care decisions and communicating them to the healthcare team.
  • Implements the standards of patient care and access.
  • Facilitates patient and family learning by providing structured education based on the Plan of Care and patient/family needs.
  • Recognizes systems and processes within the healthcare environment that affect the patient experience.
  • Anticipates needs of patients and families as they move through the healthcare system.
  • Utilizes untapped and alternative resources as necessary.
  • Sustains a comprehensive understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.
  • Supports leadership in efforts to meet and sustain regulatory compliance.
  • Monitors and complies with safety and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensures all individual certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled in a timely basis.
  • Is mindful of CCHMC's processes and compliance with CMS standards and assertively communicates safety and compliance concerns to leadership team members.
  • Effectively coordinates the delivery of respiratory care while in the role of Lead.
  • Serves as a point of contact for the ongoing monitoring of workload, work flow, and appropriate respiratory care staffing levels.
  • Applies theoretical knowledge to the care of infant, child, adolescent, and adult patients and clients.
  • Demonstrates competence in Sleep/Respiratory Care skills, problem-solving, critical thinking, and priority setting.
  • Recognizes the need for professional growth and takes appropriate steps towards meeting educational needs.
