About The Position

The Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA) Engineer I will support the development and application of Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) methodologies for Holtec International's SMR-300 advanced nuclear reactor program. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, this role will contribute to risk-informed design, safety analysis, licensing activities, and regulatory compliance by developing and maintaining probabilistic risk models and supporting thermal-hydraulic safety evaluations. The position offers the opportunity to work on next-generation nuclear technology while collaborating with reactor design, safety analysis, licensing, and systems engineering teams to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance.

Requirements

  • B.S degree in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or closely related field from an accredited college or university
  • Familiarity with thermal-hydraulic behavior of light water reactors (LWRs)
  • Familiarity with probabilistic risk assessment and/or thermal-hydraulic analysis methods for light-water reactors
  • Exposure to industry codes such as CAFTA, SAPHIRE, RiskSpectrum, RELAP5-3D, or MELCOR
  • 2-4 years of experience in probabilistic risk assessment and/or thermal-hydraulic safety analysis for nuclear facilities
  • Excellent technical writing, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Eligible to work under 10 CFR Part 810

Responsibilities

  • Support development of PRA modules and/or associated thermal-hydraulic analyses under the supervision of senior engineers.
  • Develop Level 1 and Level 2 PRA models for internal and external events during full power and low power / shutdown operating modes.
  • Thermal-hydraulic analysis specialization: support RELAP5-3D and MELCOR modeling to simulate core and containment response for severe accident scenarios that inform PRA quantifications.
  • Logic modeling specialization: support development of event trees and fault trees to estimate key design risk metrics including core damage frequency (CDF) and large release frequency (LRF).
  • Support PSA model maintenance and updates that occur periodically as the SMR-300 design matures
  • Use PSA results to support implementation of risk-informed programs; for example, Regulatory Treatment of Non-Safety Systems (RTNSS), Design Reliability Assurance Program (D-RAP), 10 CFR 50.69 risk-informed categorization and treatment of SSCs.
  • Interface with the design team to communicate and implement PSA insights
  • Ensure consistency and quality of all PSA deliverables

Benefits

  • Industry‑leading medical, dental, and vision coverage with a generous employer premium contribution and Day 1 eligibility!
  • 401(k) retirement plan with up to a 5% company match and immediate vesting to support long‑term financial security
  • Paid time off and 11 paid holidays to support rest, balance, and recharge
  • Wellness program offering rewards for participation in company‑supported health initiatives
  • Commuter benefits supporting mass transit and commuter parking options
  • Company‑paid life and AD&D insurance for added peace of mind
  • Education assistance to support continued education and professional growth
