About The Position
Devil Mountain Wholesale Nursery is seeking skilled Pruners to support tree health, structure, and presentation across nursery operations. Working under the direction of a Crew Leader and Yard Management, this role is responsible for applying proper pruning techniques to manage growth, maintain plant quality, and support overall nursery standards. Pruners play an important role in ensuring trees are structurally sound, aesthetically appropriate, and market-ready. Success in this position requires strong plant knowledge, attention to detail, safe tool use, and consistent execution.
Requirements
- Knowledge of plant identification and growth characteristics
- Understanding of basic pruning techniques
- Ability to work safely with ladders and hand tools
- Ability to work effectively in small teams (2–4 employees)
- Strong attention to detail and plant quality
Nice To Haves
- Nursery or landscape maintenance experience
- Experience identifying pests and plant disease
Responsibilities
- Perform pruning using hand pruners, pole pruners, extension pruners, and handsaws
- Follow direction from Crew Leader and Yard Management on pruning standards
- Identify plant growth characteristics and apply proper pruning techniques
- Report plant pests or disease concerns
- Perform stake repair and tree tying maintenance
- Safely use ladders (8–14 feet) during pruning activities
- Maintain plant health and overall nursery presentation
- Support general yard cleanliness and plant care standards
- Assist other nursery departments as needed
