About The Position

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for a Provincial Youth Project Coordinator to join the Youth Programs and Services Department. Reporting to the Provincial Youth Project Manager, the Provincial Youth Project Coordinator will assist with the development, coordination and implementation of Métis youth programs and services with the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. These Provincial events include but are not limited to, Alberta Métis Fest, Youth and Seniors Gathering, Cultural Youth Camps, Miyooayaan Wellness Summit, Youth Leadership Conference, and potential other projects and initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with a dedicated team to ensure the success of each event, from planning and execution to post-event evaluation.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in event coordination and program development.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to be flexible and allocate time and resources effectively.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and requirements.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong administrative skills and attention to detail, with the ability to produce professional documents, reports, and presentations.
  • A proven track record of building collaborative, positive relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including government, industry, service providers, and community.
  • Recognized strength in engaging teams and creating a culture that promotes development of individual and organizational capacity.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, helpful attitude and be empathetic and compassionate when assisting Métis Albertans.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Political and cultural sensitivity.
  • Passion for working with youth.
  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture, people, and values.
  • Two (2) years’ experience working in events, and program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Must have a driver’s license and an operational vehicle.
  • Acceptable attainment of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Post-secondary Degree/Diploma in a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience of working with grants and grant writing is an asset.
  • Indigenous Awareness Training is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of Métis specific program planning, development, and implementation.
  • Plan and facilitate logistics for all Provincial events under the Department of Youth Programs and Services.
  • Manage event registration, participant communications, and inquiries.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define event objectives, scope, and timelines for events.
  • Source and manage event venues, vendors, and other external partners.
  • Work closely with the management to develop detailed project plans for each event.
  • Oversee event logistics, including registration, catering vendors, transportation, accommodations, and audiovisual requirements.
  • Coordinate with in-house design and communications coordinators to promote events and drive attendance.
  • Work to increase program accessibility for Métis youth across the province.
  • Some supervision of staff and volunteers during event execution.
  • Ensure all aspects of events meet health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Conduct post-event evaluations and prepare reports for continuous improvement.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Métis families, community members, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and partners.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, respectful, and team-oriented work environment.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.
