About The Position

Dell Medical School is seeking a Provider Behavioral Health Consultant. This role supports mental health programs and initiatives developed through the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium, with a focus on improving the quality and accessibility of mental health care for children and adolescents across Texas. The Child Psychiatry Access Network (CPAN) and the Perinatal Psychiatry Access Network (PeriPAN) are interdisciplinary clinical services programs intended to offer primary care clinic providers and OBGYNs prompt access to on-call psychiatrists to provide expertise in assessment, treatment, and referrals for pediatric and/or perinatal patients identified as having a mental health challenge. The Provider Behavioral Health Consultant (LPC, LCSW) works under the supervision of the program’s Medical Director in collaboration with the CPAN/PeriPAN Clinical Services Manager to help providers manage mental health concerns and facilitate referrals. This role provides consultation services to providers, including pediatricians, family medicine physicians, OB/GYN physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and/or midwives, who need assistance with patient behavioral health concerns, psychiatric consultation, behavioral management plans, or resources with the goal of increasing access to mental health services for mothers, children and adolescents. This is a state-funded position with an end date of 8/31/2027 that is renewable for another year.

Requirements

Requires a Master's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or a related discipline with at least 3 year(s) of experience in professional work.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
According to Executive Order No. GA-48 of the State of Texas: for all positions that research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2), Business and Commerce Code, it is required that both candidates for employment and employees have the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.
Must be licensed in Texas as one of the following: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Responsibilities

Manages and evaluates primary care provider requests in the areas of assessment, diagnosis, behavioral management, and referral assistance according to program protocol.
Communicates requests to program psychiatrists within prescribed timeline and provides psychoeducation, referral information, and resources upon request.
Collaborates with primary care clinicians, psychiatrists, and program coordinators to assist with coordination of consults and referrals for children, adolescents, and mothers with mental health needs.

Follows standard criteria to track project progress and status to ensure alignment with program objectives.
Participates in supervision, feedback, and quality assurance checks.
Maintains records and performs data entry as required by protocol.
Conducts outreach to educate providers and community agencies about CPAN and PeriPAN.
Enrolls providers in CPAN and PeriPAN programs to provide services to better assist their patients in need of mental health care.
Efficiently and accurately prepares updated resource guides and handouts related to Texas Child Mental Health programs.
Contributes to and uses the state platform for community health referrals.

Participates in program meetings and workgroups to provide input on behavioral health initiatives.
Assists with special projects or pilot programs related to mental health service delivery or quality improvement.
Supports data collection and reporting for program evaluation as needed.
Represents the program at community events or conferences to promote awareness and strengthen partnerships.
Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
Performs related duties as required.
