About The Position

CoolIT Systems is seeking a full-time Prototyping Specialist (Machinist) to work on the prototypes of their next-generation liquid cooling products. This role involves all kinds of machining (CNC and manual mill, manual lathe, water jet and 3D printers, etc.) while maintaining company safety and quality expectations. Reporting to the Senior Lab Manager, this is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is a hands-on problem solver, loves challenging projects that can require multiple equipment to complete and wants to contribute to the future of scalable computer cooling solutions.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience specifically within R&D environments and prototype development.
  • Proficiency in operating Mazak CNC machinery alongside a solid command of manual shop equipment.
  • Proven track record in designing custom fixtures to support unique or one-off builds.
  • Deep understanding of GD&T to ensure all components meet precise tolerance standards.
  • Utilization of advanced machining theories and creative strategies to solve complex fabrication challenges.
  • Capacity to work within extremely tight tolerances on a consistent basis.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in all technical tasks.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong work ethic paired with a positive, solutions-oriented attitude.
  • Comfort working in a high-energy technology company where R&D priorities shift quickly.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and manage various pieces of equipment simultaneously.
  • Genuine interest in iterative design and the rapid prototyping process.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with welding, brazing, water jet operation, or 3D printing is a significant plus.
  • Familiarity with GibbsCAM software is considered a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings to guide production.
  • Select and utilize the most effective equipment and methods for manufacturing high-quality parts.
  • Document and report any deviations from initial designs to ensure engineering alignment.
  • Follow all quality assurance procedures to maintain high internal standards.
  • Uphold a safe working environment by strictly adhering to company safety policies.
  • Provide cross-departmental support as needed between main facilities and the Calgary Innovation Lab.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance to keep all shop equipment in peak operating condition.
  • Stay current with industry trends by reading technical publications and pursuing professional development.
