About The Position

1X is building humanoid robots that work in any space humans exist with the mission to create an abundance of labor. This involves solving robotics, AI, software, hardware, manufacturing, and operations simultaneously at scale. NEO is their flagship general-purpose robot designed to move, learn, and operate in the real world alongside people, and the company is focused on shipping it. The Prototyping team turns ideas into physical reality, working closely with Industrial Design and Engineering to rapidly develop, build, and evaluate physical systems and components. This role supports hands-on work across the Prototyping shop, assisting with the assembly and finishing of physical prototypes, including sanding parts, and providing support where projects need additional hands. It's a varied, hands-on role for someone who is meticulous with physical work and comfortable shifting between projects based on team needs.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience assembling and finishing physical parts or prototypes.
• Ability to perform sanding and other detail-oriented finishing work.
• Comfort working in a shared shop and supporting multiple projects.

Nice To Haves

• Experience supporting prototype fabrication or model making.
• Experience spotting assembly or finish issues during physical builds and communicating them to a team.

Responsibilities

• Support the build and finishing of prototypes across the Prototyping team.
• Turn parts and designs into physical builds through assembly, sanding, and practical shop support.
• Assemble prototype parts and components with attention to fit and finish.
• Sand and finish parts to support prototype builds and evaluation.
• Provide hands-on support across projects as build priorities change.
• Raise fit, finish, or assembly issues noticed so the team can address them in the next iteration.
• Keep shared work areas and tools organized and ready for the next build.
