About The Position

This position is responsible for providing physicians and therapists with treatment planning, calculations, quality assurance planning, constructing custom blocks as needed for patient treatment, taking required measurements on patients, consulting with physicians and other therapists in planning and delivering patient treatments and maintaining quality control.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus certification as a Medical Dosimetrist by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) or eligible after completion of a JRCERT-accredited program in Medical Dosimetry Certification as a Medical Dosimetrist by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) within 18 months of hire
  • Technical skill in mathematics and physics as normally acquired in freshman and sophomore college level coursework for science majors or in completing an accredited dosimetry dosimetry program.
  • Math coursework should include 2 semesters of algebra, one semester of pre-ca pre-calculus and one semester of calculus.
  • Math coursework requirements may be for waived for appropriate amount of amount of workplace experience obtained by working in the medical dosimetry field.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Designs patient treatment plans and prepares dose calculations by using computers, calculators, and manual techniques for external beam treatment planning.
  • Consults with physicians and therapists to ensure accurate patient information and dose calculations.
  • Collaborates with radiation therapy staff to assess and improve patient treatments and/or set-up techniques.
  • Shares results and recommendations with their supervisor, as appropriate.
  • Assists radiation therapists with patient set-up procedures at the treatment machine and/or simulator as needed.
  • Completes proper records, patient data forms, planning documents, and billing information logs.
  • Checks patient charts for accuracy and proper documentation according to established procedures.
  • Monitors and adheres to general radiation safety guidelines.
  • Participates in clinical research and quality improvement processes, as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
