About The Position

Nationwide's Technology team is seeking a Protective Services Officer to play a key role in maintaining a safe, secure, and professional workplace. This position is part of a corporate environment where attention to detail and commitment to service make an impact. The role offers a consistent schedule from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with two consecutive days off during the week. Flexibility to work weekends and holidays is required. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, takes pride in delivering excellent service, and is confident working in a customer-facing corporate setting.

Requirements

  • High school degree required.
  • One or more years of related security experience.
  • Proven knowledge of corporate safety and security practices, procedures, equipment, firearm, and console operation.
  • Must have the ability to learn the use of firearms (qualify annually) and safety equipment.
  • Must possess personal computer skills.
  • Must possess good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Must possess ability to use good judgment, deescalate and provide calm and rational direction.
  • Dependable, detail oriented professional.
  • Confident working in a customer facing corporate setting.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays is required.
  • Must be in good physical condition.
  • Must possess the physical ability to walk, run, stoop, kneel, carry and lift in order to perform assigned duties.
  • Must be available to work after standard office hours, weekends and holidays as needed for emergency situations and special event coverage.
  • A valid credit and/or background check will be required as part of the selection process.
  • A criminal check will be done yearly for all security associates.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and screen all visitors entering the facilities.
  • Patrol the facilities and report or take action to correct any breach of the company security policy.
  • Learn all functions of the Security Control Room, including database management and troubleshooting of computerized systems.
  • Learn functions of the Identification Center, including database management and production.
  • Proactively investigate crimes and unusual, suspicious, or dangerous incidents and resolve these situations.
  • Execute life safety procedures to protect associates in various emergency situations.
  • Greet all persons entering or calling the office buildings and provide requested information.
  • Enforce company security and life safety policies.
  • Respond to emergency situations such as workplace violence, violent offenders, associates stranded in elevators, accidents, fires, medical emergencies, crimes in progress, and alarm notifications.
  • Assist with emergency procedures and may direct public safety officials.
  • Patrol the buildings to provide physical security and safety protection for the facility and associates.
  • Respond immediately to radio calls to investigate alarms and emergency situations.
  • May be required to patrol the campus on bike, foot, or in a car.
  • Act to protect lives and property and prevent criminal acts.
  • Provide a high level of customer contact.
  • May approach suspicious persons, respond to crimes in progress, or be involved in other life-threatening or dangerous situations.
  • Write initial loss/stolen or incident reports for claims of loss or situations within the facilities.
  • Conduct follow-up investigations, including reviewing documents, video, and interviewing suspects and victims.
  • Assist management with the investigation of these situations.
  • Testify in court, prepare reports for court, and preserve evidence as needed.
  • Maintain facilities access control of associates by card key system.
  • Secure the facilities at the end of a workday and maintain this secure mode until the facility is accessed for the scheduled workday.
  • May operate the access control system to allow or deny access, create access cards, create system reports, and maintain the database.
  • Provide associates escorts to and from facilities.
  • Assist with regularly scheduled building facility inspections of fire extinguishers, standpipe systems, public address systems, elevators, and fire alarm systems.
  • With proper approval, may carry a firearm when on duty and qualify with the firearm at least annually.
  • If armed, intervene in situations where there is imminent risk of harm to associates or customers, which may include investigation, reporting, electronic system intervention, physical altercation, or force, including deadly force.
  • May be required to obtain a concealed carry permit dependent upon assignment.
  • May assist with on-the-job training of new security associates at all locations.
  • Provide security awareness and new hire security training to the associate population.
  • Perform courier service to financial institutions for the Nationwide Companies.
  • Monitor electronic protection systems including alarms, closed-circuit television, access control, fire, elevator, intercom, and other systems as assigned.
  • Dispatch security, public safety, or other personnel to alarm conditions across the country from the alarm monitoring center.
  • Maintain databases within these systems and provide reports.
  • Monitor alarm systems across the country.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot hardware systems.
  • Maintain and modify software and data.
  • Provide database and activity reports based on alarm activity.
  • Direct vendors during the install process.
  • Frequent communication with end users for training and problem resolution.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
