About The Position

USAA is seeking a Protective Security Officer II to provide armed response to defeat armed adversaries during emergency incidents involving workplace violence, active shooters, and duress situations. The role involves rendering lifesaving first aid during medical emergencies, controlling access to protected areas for life safety, and identifying/correcting policy violations. The officer will monitor safety and security situations, identify discrepancies, and implement corrective actions to remove threats. This position also involves acting as a team member in controlling incident scenes, recovering operations, and implementing actions directed by local fire and police authorities. The role requires enforcing established procedures with employees, visitors, and unaffiliated people under supervision, performing routine duties, and identifying/reporting problems in accordance with standard operating procedures. The officer will also support Senior PSOs and Security Management with overall team performance. This is a hybrid role requiring the individual to be in the office 4 days per week and can be based in Phoenix, AZ. Relocation assistance is not available.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, General Equivalency Diploma, or applicable trade/technical school diploma.
  • 1 or more years of physical security, law enforcement, or military combat arms experience.
  • Ability to operate computer programs for access control, camera systems, alarm annunciation, radio dispatch and general use of Microsoft Office tools to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must possess valid state driver's license.
  • Job Offer contingent on passing the MMPI evaluation.
  • Initial and continued employment conditional upon passing USAA’s Protective Security training standards within 3 attempts (for initial and follow-on training cycles) and obtaining required state armed security license and/or certification for assigned post state within 6 months.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous documented experience with access control, monitoring camera systems, and dispatching to emergencies.

  • Writing skills for the completion of documenting security activities and formal reports.
  • Previous armed security officer duties by standing post and enforcing standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide armed response to critical incidents and take direction on immediate actions to stop acts of violence by armed assailants with weapons.
  • Render lifesaving first aid and resolve issues during the response phase of Incident Management.
  • Respond to simulated calls for service by participating in training drills, receiving feedback, and participating in after-action reviews.
  • Respond to calls for service based on alarms received in the Security Operations Center, provide immediate visual assessment, and take appropriate actions using a force continuum model.
  • Complete detailed Incident Reports following response actions and refer them for additional investigation.
  • Control access to private property and secured facilities for employees and visitors, and create/issue credentials.
  • Identify threats and respond to access control policy violations.
  • Actively patrol private property and secured facilities to identify threats, prevent trespassing, theft, and vandalism.
  • Enforce parking/traffic policies, identify infractions, and issue citations.
  • Detect unauthorized conduct impacting campus safety, take appropriate response actions, and document in an Incident Report.
  • Participate in continuous on-the-job duty position training to maintain an appropriate skill level.
  • Conduct post-related activities during special events and support executive protection or law enforcement during incident response.
  • Report preventative security activities to the Security Operations Center for documentation and data analysis.
  • Participate in live fire training sessions and an annual live fire qualification course.
  • Complete Response Skills training sessions with physical demonstration of defensive tactics, individual and team movement during response, and first aid response actions.
  • Pass an annual Standards Evaluation that includes discussion and demonstration of the USAA Force Continuum.
  • Implement procedures for issue/turn-in, storage/transportation of handguns.
  • Maintain State handgun licensing requirements.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
