About The Position

Xcel Energy is seeking a Protection Services Agent or Senior Protection Services Agent to ensure the effective implementation of a company-wide Protection Services program. This role involves developing and implementing programs to meet regulatory requirements, protect company assets, and prevent loss or damage to personnel, property, and information. The position is responsible for implementing a broad range of strategic security consultative services as directed by Enterprise Security management, conducting complex investigations, and collaborating with staff to ensure timely case closure. Xcel Energy supports a hybrid work model, with many roles expected to work onsite three days per week, though specific location expectations may vary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Security, Business, Public Administration or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • For Protection Services Agent: At least five years of industrial security experience in a corporate environment or a combination of military and law enforcement experience.
  • For Senior Protection Services Agent: At least seven years of industrial security experience in a corporate environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Must be able to work alone and make critical decisions with little input from management.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to meet situational demands.
  • Must be physically capable of meeting demands of the position.
  • This position is subject to 24-hour on-call status and response.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must be able to travel with little advanced warning.
  • Must be able to personally conduct site inspections at a variety of facilities, such as power plants, service centers, electric substations and office buildings.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, to inspect roof hatches or other such openings, lift floor tiles to inspect under the floor, to get down on hands & knees to see under flooring or inspect culverts or holes in fences, walk on uneven surfaces or terrain such as those found at substations or generation facilities.
  • For Senior Protection Services Agent: Ability to interface with and/or collaborate with others to develop security solutions that fit within the business framework and budget.
  • For Senior Protection Services Agent: Ability to work alone and make critical decisions with little input from senior management.
  • For Senior Protection Services Agent: Demonstrated, expert knowledge of investigative strategies and techniques, to include interviewing.
  • For Senior Protection Services Agent: Proven written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Crime prevention/loss prevention training and experience is desirable.
  • CPP or PSP certification desired.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct security risk assessments and security surveys in accordance with regulatory and non-regulatory requirements, standards, guidelines, and industry best practices.
  • Recommend appropriate asset protection measures and controls to reduce the Company's exposure to terrorism, theft, property damage, and Company liability at company-wide facilities.
  • Provide consultations as needed, including working with the security systems team to design effective security systems based on survey recommendations that will meet regulatory requirements.
  • Create and update site-specific security plans for all required sites, working directly with site management to ensure plans address regulatory requirements and business needs, and assessing site adherence to plans.
  • Develop and present regulated and non-regulated security awareness programs to ensure timely and effective communication of security-related information to management, employees, and contractors.
  • Implement and participate in the department's incident intake and investigations program, ensuring management has the necessary facts to make appropriate decisions regarding security and the disposition of cases involving suspected loss of company assets and/or violation of company policies.
  • Develop and deploy loss prevention strategies at high-risk sites.
  • Personally conduct critical investigations involving risk to the corporation.
  • Review existing policies and procedures and make necessary recommendations to management on process improvements.
  • Participate in the department's special event program, ensuring events are coordinated with Xcel Energy business units, law enforcement agencies, and vendors, including threat assessment and identification of measures to deter, detect, and respond to potential contingencies.
  • Participate in the department's emergency response program, coordinating with Xcel Energy business units and law enforcement agencies to ensure proper communications protocols are in place with appropriate parties.
  • Assist in the development of security policies and procedures for emergency events.
