About The Position

The Prosthodontist supports the dental program by performing all aspects of prosthodontic care, including but not limited to dentures, partials, implants, and fixed prosthodontics, for patients served within the scope of the Clinic’s Dental Program. Candidates must be able to work effectively with the Indian Community and demonstrate sensitivity to Indian culture and its needs.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Graduate of a Dental School accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or equivalent training recognized by the California Dental Board.
  • Completion of a Prosthodontics residency program.
  • Meet all requirements for licensure in the State of California.
  • At least two years of experience and/or training beyond the postgraduate training level required, with at least one year consisting of professional practice experience or residency training.
  • A valid California DDS or DMD license is required.
  • Current DEA registration.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS Provider) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross.
  • Use of digital radiographs and electronic dental record keeping.
  • Must understand or be willing to receive Native American cultural competency training and employ cultural awareness with our Native American community.
  • Able to perform all aspects of prosthodontics including, but not limited to dentures, partials, stayplates, implants, and all fixed prosthodontics.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with and be comfortable treating patients of all ages.
  • Able to work with various types of patients from the young to the elderly.
  • Must be able to work with the Indian Community and be sensitive to the Indian culture and its needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a CODA-accredited Prosthodontics residency program is preferred.
  • Certification by the American Board of Prosthodontics is preferred.
  • Ability to place and restore dental implants preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reads all routine x-rays taken by the assistants or hygienist, records findings in the patient’s chart, and discusses findings with patient.
  • Completes appropriate forms digitally and/or handwritten legibly and thoroughly with signature, date and time.
  • Treats oral manifestations of systemic diseases with appropriate consultation with the patient’s physician.
  • Makes appropriate referrals to physician and documents referrals.
  • Reviews patients’ medical history and discuss their symptoms and concerns.
  • Formulates suitable treatment plans based on the diagnosed dental condition.
  • Completing a comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and progress notes on each patient.
  • Taking impressions of patients’ jaws and teeth to determine the dimensions of the prosthesis to be fabricated.
  • Work closely with the dental laboratories before and during fabrication of prosthesis.
  • Fitting and adjusting new prosthesis as needed following delivery.
  • Administer local anesthesia as needed for the preparation of teeth for fixed prosthesis (crown/bridge/implants).
  • Use high and slow speed handpieces to prepare teeth for crowns/bridges.
  • Ability to place and restore dental implants preferred
  • Take impressions of the prepared teeth/implants and send to the dental lab with appropriate lab work prescription.
  • Handle cements and properly seat crowns/bridges for permanent cementation.
  • Check and adjust occlusion on new prosthesis as needed.
  • Handles patient concerns and reports them to the Dental Director.
  • Render dental treatment to patients in accordance with the practices and ethics of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the Indian Health Service, and Riverside-San Bernardino County Indian Health, Inc.
  • Complete patient visit records in the Electronic Dental Record (EDR) timely and thoroughly with electronic signature, date and time.
  • Supervise and manage the dental assistant including but not limited to: Responsible for appropriate ordering, inventory and management of dental supplies and ensures that adequate materials are stocked.
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings.
  • Responsible for creating safe workplace environment; one with open communication and attitude of teamwork and respect, where high morale is maintained.
  • Maintains open communication with the staff to encourage proposals where efficiency and quality of patient care can be improved.
  • Participate in the Peer Review program, QM activities and UR Committee as assigned.
  • Submit productivity reports as assigned.

Benefits

  • Compensation: $134.00 - $142.00 per hour, depending on experience and internal equity.
