The Prosthetist-Orthotist is responsible for evaluating, designing, fabricating, and fitting prosthetic and orthotic devices to enhance patient mobility and quality of life. This role involves patient assessment, treatment planning, implementation, and follow-up care while ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. Fulfills all performance criteria of the Resident Orthotist. Role is 100% clinical care.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Bachelors, Master's or post-graduate certificate program in orthotics and prosthetics required.
  • Candidate has 0-3 years of experience required.
  • Hands-on experience in patient assessment, device design, fabrication, fitting, and follow-up care required.
  • Knowledge of current industry standards, materials, and technologies required.
  • ABC Certified in Prosthetics and Orthotics required.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to work independently across inpatient and outpatient settings without direct supervision on the majority of cases.
  • Demonstrates competence with assigned patients
  • Assess and evaluate patient needs by integrating medical history, physical examination, observation, and patient input.
  • Communicate with patients to understand expectations and guide realistic, effective prescriptions.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans and protocols based on clinical findings and data analysis.
  • Educate patients, families, and healthcare professionals on the use, benefits, and limitations of devices to support informed decisions and compliance.
  • Evaluate a patient’s gait by visual observation in order to achieve optimum prosthetic or orthotic function.
  • Achieve optimum alignment of patient’s prosthetic/orthotic device by evaluation of the sagittal, transverse and coronal planes in order to provide maximum function.
  • Demonstrate the solution to a patient’s prosthetic/orthotic problem by appropriate evaluation in order to achieve proper function
  • Analyze measurement data to guide appropriate clinical procedures.
  • Select suitable materials and components to meet patient-specific functional and durability needs.
  • Inspect devices to ensure compliance with prescribed standards and correct any deficiencies.
  • Implement quality control checks throughout fabrication to reduce errors and improve outcomes.
  • Adhere to safety protocols when handling lab materials and equipment to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Works collaboratively with the health care team to achieve patient outcomes.
  • Collaborates with Resident Orthotist-Prosthetists
  • Contributes to achievement of department goals through continuous performance improvement.
  • Demonstrates and promotes the Strong Commitment values and behaviors.
  • Performs other tasks as directed.
