SSNA Propulsion Plant Electrical Systems Engineer

General Dynamics Electric Boat•Groton, CT

About The Position

The SSNA Power Distribution Group is seeking engineers to support development of a new electric plant design for the next generation of UK fast attack submarines. The group is developing a cost-effective, power-dense electric plant architecture that uses current solid-state power electronics for power conversion, system protection, and coordination. The role supports development of the SSNA electric plant, including design, performance, cost, and ship trade studies; analysis of key components; interface development; and review of developmental component requirements. It also involves developing and using next-generation electric plant models, such as MATLAB/Simulink, and managing component vendor efforts through scoping, technical-document reviews, and performance tracking. The development effort builds on previous submarine programs by optimizing existing characteristics, integrating lessons learned, and deploying advanced features for the new platform’s propulsion system needs.
