About The Position

Propulsion/Nacelle Senior Product Development Structural Design Engineer Company: The Boeing Company Boeing South Carolina is hiring a Senior Level Structural Design Engineer to support (PSC) Product Development team in North Charleston . This role work on both (1) technology development as well as (2) product development for the next BCA airplane, as well as derivatives and improvement packages for existing BCA and BDS airplanes. This engineer will manage technology development projects to understand and mature new tools, processes and methods that will dramatically improve the next generation of nacelles. In addition, this engineer will design and develop components, run trade studies, and develop nacelle and propulsion architecture for the next BCA airplane program. Extensive coordination with Propulsion Product Development in the Northwest and other locations will be required. Ability to work with and influence many other functions, many of which will be outside of PSC, will be essential. Ability to work to vague, changing, and undeveloped requirements is required as well as ability to work with little or no direction. Expert-level understanding of nacelle design and manufacturing methods, as well as expert-level CATIA modelling skills required. This position is part of a high-performance, highly engaged team at PSC with world-class nacelle development experience. Candidate should be fully skilled and experienced with relational design, model based engineering, systems engineering, and Set Based Design practices. Candidate should know how to develop & maturing trade space maps to develop products & production systems. Candidate should know lean engineering practices and have experience developing technologies.

Requirements

  • Expert understanding of nacelle manufacturing processes.
  • Expert level understanding of and previous experience with technical Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)

Nice To Haves

  • Expert level of experience and understanding with CATIA, ENOVIA, and IVT (5-10 year).
  • Expert level understanding and experience with nacelle design (5-10+ years).
  • Expert familiarity with Boeing Product Development Processes (5-10+ years)

Responsibilities

  • Develops, integrates and documents structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design.
  • Develops, maintains and modifies structural and interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Leads performance, integration and analysis of tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals.
  • Assists with investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.
  • Works under minimal direction.
