About The Position

Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Propulsion Engineer – Level 2 or 3 to join their team at the Palm Beach Gardens, Florida location to support the Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) business unit. The PS&C business unit is based in Elkton, Maryland and specializes in solid-propellant rocket operations, designing, developing, and producing solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems. The Palm Beach Gardens location is the Air-breathing propulsion center of excellence, specializing in the design, analysis, and system integration of ramjets, scramjets, and other advanced air-breathing propulsion systems. The role involves performing design of one or more moderately complex or portions of structural components and functional systems of company products, generally working from preliminary studies developed by higher-graded engineers. Responsibilities include analyzing requirements for materials, structural components, or functional systems, selecting applicable analytical data, defining problems, and computing engineering characteristics consistent with specifications and design needs. Results are released as design data after review by higher-graded engineers. The role also involves developing original ideas, elaborating on preliminary design concepts, evaluating completed designs, and making necessary modifications. The level of hire will depend on demonstrated education, experience, skills, and competency.

Requirements

  • Requires Bachelors in STEM plus 2 years of related experience or Master’s Degree in STEM, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred (for Level 2)
  • Requires Bachelors in STEM plus 5 years of related experience or Master’s Degree in STEM plus 3 years of experience or PhD in STEM plus at least 1 year of experience, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred (for Level 3)
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, presentation and critical thinking skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Power Point)
  • Working knowledge of computer aided design (CAD) software
  • Knowledge of ASME Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Proficiency with Siemens NX (for Level 3)
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for all positions with a government clearance and certain other restricted positions.

  • Understanding of design for assembly / design for manufacturing (DFA/DFM)

Responsibilities

  • With limited supervision, applies theoretical knowledge and engineering techniques to the solution of more complex components, structures, and sub-assemblies
  • Responds in a timely manner to all requests and explores all avenues within authority and makes appropriate referrals to other sources
  • Makes thoughtful and valuable suggestions and recommendations for improving own work and/or group’s work
  • Establish requirements for materials, structural components, and functional systems
  • Release results as design data after review from other engineers
  • Document results of design activities
