About The Position

Abode Money is a rapidly growing technology company focused on helping homeowners save on the financial elements of homeownership. With tens of thousands of homeowners already on their platform, they are expanding into New York and seeking an experienced Property Tax Appeals Advisor to guide their team through regulatory and operational requirements during their early-phase market entry. This is a contract-based, hourly consulting role ideal for someone deeply knowledgeable about New York’s property tax protesting system who can serve as a trusted advisor as Abode Money builds its presence in the market. For the right person, this role may evolve into a mutually beneficial partnership to help develop their property tax product in New York. Abode Money's current partners include premier home financial services companies such as USAA, Lemonade, Compass, Nerdwallet, CreditKarma, Monarch Money, Consumer Reports, Thumbtack, and more. The role is crucial in ensuring the company launches and scales its product in New York on a strong, compliant foundation, offering a flexible, high-impact opportunity for someone looking to apply their knowledge without a full-time commitment.

Requirements

  • Have direct experience in New York’s property tax sector—through your own practice, as part of a firm, or within local government.
  • Are intimately familiar with county-specific procedures, deadlines, and regulations, especially for New York’s five largest counties.
  • Bring an innovative approach while rigorously adhering to all regulatory guidelines.
  • Are available for as-needed, hourly consulting via phone or Zoom.

Responsibilities

  • Clarify state statutes, administrative processes, and compliance requirements for property tax protests (Regulatory Insight).
  • Advise on local nuances, processes, and rules specific to New York City, Nassau County, and other major jurisdictions (County-Specific Expertise).
  • Direct on how and when to file petitions (including TRIM notices, deadlines, evidence requirements), covering both online and paper submissions (Filing Guidance).
  • Share expert insights on hearing procedures and best practices for preparing and presenting appeals (Hearing Strategy).
