About The Position

Leumas Residential is a national real estate and property management organization that owns and operates affordable and conventional housing communities across the United States. Our mission is centered on long-term community stability, operational excellence, and responsible financial management. We are hiring a Property Accountant to support property management accounting and financial reporting for a multi-property portfolio. The Property Accountant is responsible for day-to-day property accounting activities and works closely with property management teams to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial operations. This role supports monthly financial reporting, general ledger maintenance, budgeting activities, and internal accounting controls while contributing to the financial performance of assigned properties. This position performs property management accounting functions including accounts payable processing, invoice review and coding, weekly check runs, ACH payments, and vendor maintenance. The Property Accountant maintains vendor files, W-9 documentation, and supports 1099 compliance. The role includes reviewing deposit activity, posting resident payments, reconciling resident ledgers, and resolving discrepancies using Yardi or similar property management accounting software. Monthly responsibilities include preparing income statements and balance sheets, completing general ledger reconciliations, and supporting the month-end close process. Journal entries are prepared for prepaid expenses, accruals, and other accounting adjustments prior to finalizing financial reports. The Property Accountant assists with operating budgets, expense tracking, variance analysis, and forecasting for property expenses. Monthly bank reconciliations are completed for operating accounts and security deposit accounts. The role ensures move-in and move-out charges are posted accurately, resident refunds are processed within required timelines, and financial activity complies with HUD and conventional housing requirements. Additional responsibilities include tracking debt service payments, property taxes, and insurance, maintaining organized financial records, and ensuring compliance with GAAP, HUD accounting standards, and company accounting policies. Successful candidates will have experience in property management accounting, real estate accounting, or affordable housing accounting and demonstrate proficiency in general ledger accounting, double-entry bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, journal entries, financial statement preparation, budgeting, forecasting, and month-end close processes. Experience with Yardi accounting software, HUD financial reporting, compliance management systems, and conventional housing requirements is strongly preferred. Candidates must have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, effective written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to meet deadlines while working independently. A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, mathematics, or a related field is preferred. Leumas Residential offers a competitive salary range of $57,000 to $70,000 per year, benefits, professional development opportunities, and a collaborative, mission-driven work environment.
