About The Position

The Property Maintenance Specialist is responsible for maintaining the overall condition, safety, functionality, and appearance of approximately 55 affordable housing and shelter units in Kittitas County. This position performs preventative maintenance, unit turnovers, repairs, and upkeep of both interior and exterior building systems. The Specialist works independently with a flexible schedule to respond to maintenance needs while ensuring housing units remain safe, compliant, and move-in ready. The ideal candidate is dependable, self-motivated, customer-service oriented, and capable of managing a wide variety of maintenance tasks in residential housing and shelter environments.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of residential maintenance practices.
  • Experience with painting, drywall repair, basic plumbing, and minor carpentry.
  • Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
  • Basic computer and mobile device skills for work order tracking.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of general maintenance, facilities maintenance, apartment maintenance, or related experience preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections of units, common areas, grounds, and building systems.
  • Complete preventative and seasonal maintenance tasks according to established schedules.
  • Identify repair needs and recommend improvements to management.
  • Troubleshoot and complete basic maintenance requests efficiently and professionally.
  • Inspect vacated units and prepare scopes of work for turnover needs.
  • Complete unit turns including repair work, painting, and minor improvements as needed
  • Replace or install damaged fixtures, appliances, hardware, shelving, flooring components, and other unit amenities as needed.
  • Perform basic carpentry, drywall repair, patching, caulking, and painting.
  • Repair doors, locks, windows, cabinets, blinds, and other building components.
  • Diagnose and repair basic plumbing issues.
  • Maintain exterior appearance of buildings and grounds including minor landscaping and groundskeeping duties.
  • Maintain maintenance logs, inspection records, and work order documentation.
  • Help coordinate licensed contractors for work beyond position qualifications.
  • Monitor contractor performance and completion of approved work.
  • Follow all agency safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building, health, and safety standards.
