About The Position

The Corporate Controller will oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions across our diverse portfolio of residential properties. Reporting directly to the CFO, this position requires a strategic financial leader who can balance hands-on technical expertise with high-level financial planning and analysis. You will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of our financial reporting while driving process improvements and supporting data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in progressively responsible accounting roles, preferably in real estate or property management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization is essential.
  • Strong problem-solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make
  • decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results orientation.
  • PC proficiency is essential (Windows environment) and strong working knowledge of Entrata or similar property management software, Excel, and QuickBooks is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Leadership & Strategy Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes while ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting across all entities.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive internal controls and accounting policies that comply with GAAP and industry best practices.
  • Partner with the executive team to provide financial insights that drive strategic business decisions and support portfolio growth initiatives.
  • Property Portfolio Management Oversee financial operations for our residential property portfolio, including multifamily, single-family, and related supporting operations.
  • Analyze property performance metrics and provide actionable recommendations to optimize NOI across the portfolio.
  • Team Development & Cross-Functional Collaboration Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with property management teams to streamline financial processes and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Work closely with asset management, acquisitions, and development teams on financial due diligence and integration of new properties.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners.
  • Financial Systems & Process Optimization Champion the implementation and optimization of property management and accounting software systems.
  • Drive automation initiatives to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting processes.
  • Develop and maintain robust financial dashboards and KPI reporting for executive and board-level presentations.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement preparation for assigned properties, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery to ownership groups and stakeholders
  • Manage the monthly close process, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations across multiple accounting platforms including QuickBooks, Entrata, and specialized property management systems
  • Perform detailed reconciliations between property management software and general ledger systems, investigating and resolving discrepancies in AR/AP aging reports
  • Prepare and analyze property-level budgets, forecasts, and variance reports, providing actionable insights to property managers and regional leadership
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Supervise and mentor property accounting staff, including decisions on departmental structure and staffing levels
  • Coordinate with regional managers on accounting department organization and rent collection operations
