About The Position

EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants is seeking a Property Actuary to build, validate, and maintain actuarial and CAT models for property insurance pricing. This role involves hands-on data analysis, including policy information, exposures, and loss runs, to develop models that inform pricing recommendations for clients. The goal is to translate complex actuarial output into understandable recommendations for brokers to present to risk managers and CFOs. The position emphasizes practical modeling skills and the ability to communicate technical findings effectively. While ACAS is preferred, individuals with significant property modeling experience are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • ACAS preferred, but seriously considered with at least 2 years of dedicated property pricing or modeling work if not credentialed.
  • Demonstrated experience in property modeling, including loss development, trend, frequency/severity, CAT load integration, and layer pricing.
  • Proficiency in handling large, complex datasets.
  • Strong Excel skills are essential.
  • Experience with at least one of Python, R, or SQL.
  • Daily use of AI tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) for efficiency and critical evaluation.
  • Ability to explain complex work clearly to non-technical audiences like brokers and clients.
  • Minimum of 2 years of actuarial work with significant focus on property pricing or modeling.
  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or another quantitative field.
  • Understanding of commercial property insurance, including program structures, towers, TIV values, and underlying actuarial principles.
  • Familiarity with major CAT models (e.g., AIR, RMS) and how vendor outputs are integrated into pricing.
  • Experience with benchmarking, limit adequacy work, and TCOR modeling in renewal discussions.
  • Comfort working with complex programs involving layered placements, quota shares, deductibles, self-insured retentions, and captives.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders including brokers, practice leaders, and clients.

Nice To Haves

  • Brokerage, reinsurance, or carrier-side property pricing experience.
  • Experience demonstrating how actuarial work influences placement decisions.
  • Hands-on experience with CAT models (AIR, RMS).
  • Self-starter mindset with a desire to contribute to the growth of the property analytics practice.

Responsibilities

  • Build, validate, and maintain actuarial and statistical models for pricing property risk, including CAT and non-CAT scenarios.
  • Collaborate with a geographically dispersed team of over 10 actuaries, with a core group in NYC.
  • Utilize models to generate indicated rates, layer pricing, limit adequacy assessments, retention analysis, and Total Cost of Risk (TCOR) views to support placement decisions.
  • Perform data cleaning and preparation, including working with Statement of Values (SOVs), loss runs, and policy schedules, and establish efficient workflows for future analyses.
  • Translate model outputs into client-readable formats such as slides, benchmarks, and concise written narratives for brokers to present to CFOs.
  • Engage with producers, property practice leaders, and clients to discuss findings, address questions, and help shape program structures.
  • Contribute to new business efforts, including responding to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), participating in prospect meetings, and developing actuarial narratives.
  • Leverage AI tools for tasks like data cleanup, initial code generation, and drafting client narratives, and use AI to stress-test models, challenge assumptions, and validate results.
  • Ensure models are well-documented and auditable for team accessibility.
