About The Position

The Property Accountant will, under minimal supervision, perform accounting functions and duties for a portfolio of owned, managed, or joint-ventured residential properties. The Property Accountant will actively participate in the preparation of the monthly financial statements and management reports for each property. They will establish and maintain a working relationship with the properties and upper management.

  • Must be prepared to work with minimal supervision, yet consistently prepared to present results and status of projects to supervisor.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to positively communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to analyze data and supporting evidence to provide recommendations.
  • Possess positive interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of real estate and multi-family industry.
  • Must be flexible in a fast-paced and changing work environment.
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must have Yardi accounting software experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Capacity to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced office environment
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles.
  • Experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to support audits, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Candidates will possess 3-5 years’ experience in a real estate management environment

Responsibilities

  • Financial reporting for assigned properties
  • Assist with the onboarding of new properties
  • Completing the monthly close process (including maintaining general ledger accounts, providing monthly account analysis, and reconciling balance sheet accounts)
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and accruals
  • Enforcing GAAP accounting principles and company policies
  • Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting
  • Prepare/Review bank reconciliations for operating and security deposits accounts
  • Oversee third-party accounting provider
  • Assist in posting AP and processing weekly/biweekly check runs
  • Processing cash receipts for Corporate level transactions
  • Support property management and operations teams with financial inquiries or reporting needs.
  • Assist with audits & tax preparation processes.
