About The Position

This role involves the independent performance of operations and maintenance of various gas and propellant systems. The mechanic will work with cryogenic, hypergolic, high and low pressure gas systems, and propellant equipment, including corrosion control. This includes modifying, refurbishing, cleaning, troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, testing, and operating a wide range of equipment such as compressed gas trailers, storage vessels, converters, tractors, vacuum systems, engines, pumps, compressors, rechargers, transfer hoses, and fixed systems. The position also requires piping and tubing fabrication, installation, reconditioning, and testing of high-pressure lines and flexible hoses, as well as mixing special gases. Corrosion control duties include painting mechanical and electrical equipment and preparing surfaces. The mechanic will work from various forms of instruction, including blueprints and diagrams, and will be responsible for obtaining measurements and field dimensions. Operation of vehicles and other equipment may be required. The role utilizes electrical/electronic and mechanical test equipment, instruments, and shop tools. Functional and operational tests of refurbished equipment will be performed. Gas welding may be used for cutting, burning, and soldering. Maintaining logs, records, and certifications is also part of the responsibilities. The position requires compliance with all applicable Federal, State, local, NASA, and Space Force laws and regulations, as well as company policies and contractual requirements.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent plus four years experience.
Technical school, apprenticeship, trade school graduate, or equivalent in lieu of years experience is applicable.
Must possess demonstrated ability to read and understand drawings.
Possess ability to work safely on both energized and de-energized equipment.
Unless deferred by Amentum management, possess a current Florida Class A Hazardous Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with an X endorsement, or acquire this class of CDL within 90 days of employment.
Ability to work day, evening, and night shifts, as well as overtime, weekends, and holidays.
Must possess planning/organizing skills, and work under deadlines.
Must be able to successfully pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
If required, must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
US citizenship is required for restricted area access.
A driver's license is required to independently travel onto and around KSC property.

Responsibilities

Modify, refurbish, clean, troubleshoot, repair, adjust, calibrate, verify, certify, checkout, test and operate compressed gas trailers, storage vessels, converters, tractors, vacuum systems, engines, pumps, compressors, rechargers, transfer hoses, various fixed systems and other related equipment used in the receiving, storage and delivery of GN2, GHe and GO2, cryogenic, hypergolic, high and low pressure gasses, propellants, solvents and other liquids.
Perform piping and tubing fabrication, installation, reconditioning and testing of all types of high pressure lines and flexible hoses, and mixing of special gases.
Perform corrosion control duties by painting mechanical and electrical equipment. Preparing, caulking, painting, and finishing panel frames, unstrut, and fixed propellant equipment.
Determine paint required for different surfaces, and mix paint ingredients to obtain proper color and consistency.
Work from written or verbal instruction, blueprints, diagrams, schematics, vendor manuals and applicable specifications and codes.
Obtain measurements, field dimensions and other related information necessary to complete job assignments.
Operate vehicles and other types of equipment required for completion of assigned tasks.
Use electrical/electronic and mechanical test equipment, instruments, measuring devices and shop tools such as, but not limited to: resistance soldering units, meters, scopes, probes, microbrazers, mobile power generators, counters, potting equipment, ovens, molds, etc.
Perform functional and/or operational tests of refurbished, repaired, and modified equipment.
May operate gas welding equipment to perform cutting, burning, and soldering, as necessary, to accomplish work assignments.
Maintain logs, records, charts, etc., as required.
Maintain certifications, licenses, permits, etc., required for performance of assigned tasks.
Perform in compliance with Federal, State, local, NASA and Space Force laws, regulations and requirements. Comply with KSC/CCSFS energy management conservation regulations, collective bargaining agreements, security, safety, hurricane and other specialized programs or contractual requirements relating to the business of the section, working within the limits of established policy.
Perform any work assigned to the employees in the classification. Perform work in other classifications when incidental but necessary to accomplish assignments.
