About The Position

The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) is seeking a meticulous and responsible candidate to fill a part-time Proofreader Aide position at their Ogden campus. This role involves providing quality assurance by assisting certified Instructional Materials Technicians in producing Braille accessible instructional materials for Utah students. The Proofreader Aide will work alongside technicians to verify Braille transcriptions against original scripts, identify errors, ensure correct formatting, and consult reference materials for grammar and composition rules.

Requirements

  • Has experience in reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ability to understand and apply grammatical, typographical, and compositional rules to Braille material.
  • Can read and understand instructional materials in a variety of curriculum areas and on instructional levels from kindergarten through high school.
  • Can read and interpret tactile graphics in a variety of curriculum areas, including language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
  • Understand and use common proofreading and standard printers' marks.
  • Use automated software applications.
  • Successful completion of criminal background check contingent upon employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides quality assurance by assisting the certified Instructional Materials Technician(s) in the production of Braille accessible instructional materials for Utah students.
  • Works alongside Instructional Materials Technicians to verify proof copy of Braille transcription against original script to detect grammatical, typographical, or compositional errors and marks.
  • Helps ensure that Braille documents are formatted correctly.
  • Consults reference books or secures aid of Instructional Materials Technicians to check references to rules of grammar and composition.
