Pinchin is hiring a Project Technologist in Hazardous Materials Team. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager and is being filled as a new role. Role Overview As a Project Technologist reporting to the Project Manager, you will assess and monitor workplaces and building structures across BC. Your primary responsibility is identifying hazardous materials (e.g., asbestos, lead, mercury, PCBs) and ensuring strict health and safety protocols are followed before and during any disturbance or removal associated with renovation or demolition. You will conduct building assessments, perform abatement field reviews, and prepare site and technical reports. Strong communication with your manager and client stakeholders is essential to ensure project objectives and requirements are successfully met.

Requirements

  • Strong communication, organizational skills, and ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Availability to work outside core business hours, participate in weekend rotations, and travel for extended periods to remote locations in BC.
  • Valid driver’s license, vehicle, and insurance are required; some client sites may also require security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Field work experience and technical report writing skills are considered assets.
  • Related post-secondary education, along with familiarity with health and safety legislation and guidelines, is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with building systems, floor plans, and environmental monitoring equipment is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site hazardous materials assessments, inspections, and testing, including the collection and analysis of air samples for asbestos and lead.
  • Interpret and analyze sample results in relation to legislative requirements and industry-accepted guidelines.
  • Prepare technical reports that summarize assessment findings and provide clear recommendations to clients.
  • Coordinate and supervise sub-contractors to support safe, efficient, and high-quality project delivery.
  • Use and calibrate microscopes and field monitoring equipment as part of project work.
  • Manage project time effectively and efficiently to meet deadlines and client expectations.
  • Liaise with clients and sub-contractors to ensure health, safety, and hygiene needs are understood, addressed, and met.
  • Develop and maintain positive client relationships through responsive communication and professional service.
