About The Position

Stony Brook University is seeking a Project Support Specialist to contribute to ongoing projects in biomedical optical imaging within the Department of Biomedical Engineering. This role involves contributing to experimental design, data acquisition, and analysis for various diffuse optical imaging systems, including diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS), time-gated DCS (TG-DCS), and speckle-based methods (SCOS). The position requires the candidate to have prior familiarity with experimental systems, datasets, and analysis workflows to ensure immediate contribution to ongoing research efforts. The specialist is expected to promptly contribute to time-sensitive deliverables, such as ongoing grant applications and manuscript preparations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of full-time experience in optical instrumentation, data acquisition, and data analysis.
  • Experience with programming for instrument control and data acquisition using MATLAB and Python.
  • Experience with programming for data analysis and signal processing using MATLAB.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Experience with diffuse optical imaging techniques such as DCS, TG-DCS, or speckle-based methods.
  • Experience working with human physiological data and signal processing.
  • Familiarity with EEG or multimodal neuroimaging systems.
  • Experience with optical system design and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Prior experience in an academic biomedical optics laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct experimental measurements using optical imaging systems including DCS, TG-DCS, and SCOS.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize data acquisition and signal processing pipelines.
  • Analyze physiological data including cerebral blood flow and neurophysiological signals.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot optical instrumentation.
  • Support integration of multimodal systems including optical and electrophysiological measurements.
  • Assist in preparation of figures, reports, and grant-related materials.
  • Support ongoing grant deliverables and manuscript preparation related to biomedical optical imaging.
  • Other duties as assigned.
