About The Position

Wharton-Smith, Inc. is seeking a Project Superintendent II willing to work in Central Florida. The role provides leadership and oversight of field operations for assigned construction projects. The superintendent may lead smaller to mid-sized projects or support leadership on larger or more complex projects, overseeing assistants, foremen, field engineers, subcontractors, and other field personnel to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within project requirements, and in accordance with plans, specifications, and quality standards. The position coordinates daily field operations, manages field documentation, supports scheduling and production planning, maintains quality and safety standards, and manages project resources and smaller project budgets. The superintendent works with the Project Manager and other project leaders and communicates regularly with clients, subcontractors, inspectors, vendors, and project team members. The role is full-time and exempt, typically Monday through Friday, with flexibility for additional hours, nights, weekends, and holidays as project needs require. Occasional travel within Wharton-Smith's operating territories may be required.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
At least six years of construction-related, construction management, or engineering experience.
Demonstrated experience supporting or leading successful completion of construction projects.
Strong knowledge of construction field operations, project coordination, scheduling, quality control, safety procedures, and field documentation.
Experience supervising and coordinating field personnel, including foremen, assistant superintendents, field engineers, subcontractors, and other project personnel.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate field activities, and support successful project execution.
Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including effective coordination with Project Managers, Project Superintendents, Area Project Superintendents, and General Superintendents.
Ability to communicate professionally with clients, subcontractors, inspectors, vendors, and field personnel about project status, schedules, manpower, field issues, and resource requirements.
Current OSHA 30-hour certification, First Aid and CPR certifications, and applicable safety training.
Knowledge of competent-person requirements, including trenching and excavation, scaffolding, rigging, confined space, and fall protection.
Training in Silica Safety, Risk Management, and Accident Investigation.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and standard computer systems.
Ability to maintain accurate field documentation and support compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
Ability to work effectively in active construction environments with a strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
Ability to safely operate or work around heavy construction equipment and use standard office technology, including laptops, smartphones, copiers, and scanners.
Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, noise, and dust, and to recognize and respond appropriately to job-site signs, instructions, alarms, and warnings.
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, crawling, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
Ability to safely navigate uneven surfaces, ladders, scaffolding, stairs, ramps, and elevated work areas.
Ability to handle heavy or bulky construction materials and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Availability for a full-time, exempt schedule, typically Monday through Friday, with flexibility for additional hours, nights, weekends, and holidays based on project requirements.
Willingness to travel occasionally throughout Wharton-Smith's operating territories as business needs require.

Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate daily field operations for assigned projects or portions of larger projects.
Supervise and coordinate assistants, foremen, field engineers, subcontractors, and other field personnel.
Maintain quality, productivity, and an organized work environment.
Conduct pre-task meetings and coordinate project planning activities.
Coordinate permits, inspections, site setup, temporary facilities, and site utilization.
Manage field document control, daily reports, progress photos, project logs, and other required documentation.
Supervise material handling, including receiving, inventory, storage, and distribution.
Coordinate subcontractor activities and meetings; review scopes of work and monitor field compliance with contract requirements.
Manage project as-builts, review approved submittals, and coordinate field implementation.
Conduct progress reviews, completion inspections, punch-list activities, and field layout verification.
Maintain concrete pour logs, tool inventories, equipment records, rental logs, and other field tracking documentation.
Identify manpower and equipment requirements, coordinate project resources, monitor equipment usage, and assist with resource and cost tracking.
Manage smaller project budgets, monitor costs, manage field purchasing processes, and maintain related documentation.
Coordinate and document scope changes and communicate impacts to the Project Manager and project leadership.
Participate in constructability reviews and pre-job planning; assist with project closeout, turnover, and completion.
Maintain professional relationships with clients, owners' representatives, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and other stakeholders.
Support identification of additional work opportunities with current clients.
Develop and mentor foremen, assistants, and other field personnel; assist with staffing and workforce planning.
Assist with developing, maintaining, and communicating project schedules and production plans; maintain production boards and communicate progress.
Coordinate manpower, equipment, and material requirements to support schedules; monitor production and resolve field issues that could affect schedule or productivity.
Lead end-of-shift and weekly project team meetings, assist with schedule updates, and communicate changes to leadership and affected parties.
Monitor labor requirements and support established production and labor budgets.
Lead safety activities, promote compliance with company and project safety requirements, and hold field personnel accountable for safe practices.
Conduct daily safety inspections and new-hire safety orientations; conduct or coordinate pre-task planning, Safety Task Assessments, and safety meetings.
Ensure subcontractor compliance with safety requirements, maintain Safety Data Sheet information and other safety documentation, and follow incident and accident reporting procedures.
Coordinate required safety training and participate in Business Unit safety inspections.
Monitor labor, field material, equipment costs, daily expenditures, and resource usage; assist with forecasting labor, equipment, and material purchases.
Assist the Project Manager with budget and forecast updates, communicate potential cost impacts, and monitor production and resource use against financial and productivity goals.
