The basic purpose of this year-round, in-person position is to orient the employee in the application of academic theory and basic principles as they pertain to railroad signal engineering. A main focus of the assignments will be upgrading signal drawings and plans using AutoCAD. The intern will assist Signal Management in the design and layout of railroad signal projects, applying basic engineering concepts, performing calculations, and developing sketches of proposed designs. Projects may include assistance with engineering plans for power generation and consumption, inspection services during construction, preparation of local State and Federal permits, utility locates, and other related activities. The intern will also perform routine drafting and utilize the department’s CADD system and software to develop drawings, graphs, tables, and reports, and will gather, develop, analyze, and present operational data from railroad work programs or other railroad business.
