About The Position

The Project Specialist Welder supports specialized production, repair and project work requiring strong blueprint interpretation, finish-welding and weld-repair skills. This position assists the Final department with repair welds, completes sales order and Service Center projects, and assists with robotic welding operations while maintaining a strong focus on quality, safety and teamwork.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of welding experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, repair or comparable environment.
  • Demonstrated experience completing weld repairs, finish welding and rework independently to established quality standards.
  • Experience reading and working from blueprints, specifications, measurements and weld symbols.
  • Proven ability to weld using a hand-held MIG welder.
  • Strong blueprint-reading and interpretation skills, including the ability to work from dimensions, specifications and weld symbols.
  • Strong finish-welding and weld-repair skills with excellent attention to weld appearance, quality and workmanship.
  • Ability to identify weld defects, determine appropriate repair methods and complete repairs efficiently and accurately.
  • Ability to support specialized sales order and Service Center projects and adapt to varied welding, repair and modification assignments.
  • Ability and willingness to assist with robotic welding operations and related quality checks.
  • Working knowledge of shop math, measuring tools and dimensional verification.
  • Strong problem analysis, troubleshooting and problem-resolution skills.
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares work to be accomplished by studying assembly instructions, blueprints, specifications, sales orders and parts lists; gathering parts, subassemblies, tools and materials.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, weld symbols, dimensions and specifications accurately to complete specialized welding, repair and project work.
  • Performs high-quality MIG welding, including strong finish welds, repair welds, rework and cosmetic weld repairs to meet quality and appearance standards.
  • Assists the Final department with weld repairs and corrections identified during final assembly, inspection or finishing processes.
  • Completes assigned sales order and Service Center projects, including custom, repair and modification work, according to specifications and established quality standards.
  • Assists with robotic welding operations, including supporting setup, part positioning, weld quality verification and correction of welds as needed.
  • Positions parts and subassemblies using templates, measurements and blueprint specifications; examines connections for correct fit before welding.
  • Corrects welds by grinding, chipping or removing excess weld, slag or spatter and completes repair welding as required to achieve an acceptable finished product.
  • Verifies specifications by measuring completed components and conducting self-inspections for dimensional accuracy, weld quality and overall workmanship.
  • Troubleshoots welding and assembly issues, determines appropriate repair methods within established procedures and communicates concerns or resource needs to the supervisor.
  • Moves components by operating an overhead crane and other material-handling equipment using safe work practices.
  • Keeps equipment operational by completing preventive maintenance requirements and following operating procedures.
  • Documents work by accurately completing required production, quality, sales order, Service Center and time records.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations and wearing required personal protective equipment.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and works collaboratively with Final, Production, Service Center, Quality and other team members. Maintains a positive, team-oriented approach and communicates effectively to accomplish shared goals.
  • Contributes to overall team performance by assisting in other welding and production areas as workload and business needs require.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned to support and improve the overall operations of XL Specialized Trailers.
