About The Position

We have an opening for an experienced theatre consultant with a strong client management, facility planning, and systems design skill set. We seek a good collaborator who has strong technical and project management skills. This role is well suited for an established mid-career theatre consultant or theatre design professional who is interested in working with a highly competent and enthusiastic team of people on interesting and worthwhile projects of all scope and budget levels. Schuler Shook is an internationally recognized theatre planning, lighting design, and audio video design firm with projects in the United States and around the world. You will work with our team of collaborators in our Dallas office. We also share information and ideas with our offices in Chicago, Minneapolis, New York, San Francisco, and Melbourne, Australia.

Requirements

  • Substantial professional experience in technical theatre, live entertainment production, and/or theatre production design.
  • 5+ years prior experience in theatre consultancy or a similar position desired.
  • Experience with the architectural or construction field is required at the Senior level, and highly desirable for the Project Consultant role.
  • Previous client engagement experience.
  • Ability to represent Schuler Shook positively in client and industry settings.
  • Excellent visual and verbal communicator, able to convey information clearly to different audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
  • Comfortable working independently, leading teams, and mentoring staff.
  • Knowledge of system design for theatrical lighting and rigging systems.
  • General understanding of the application of Codes and Standards to our work.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook, and Bluebeam Revu.
  • Strong organizational skills, personal initiative, and a service mindset are required.
  • Willingness to travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Autodesk Revit is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Project Manager and lead design contributor on a variety of theatre planning projects.
  • Lead and supervise the documentation of everything we work on, from conceptual room diagrams to theatrical lighting infrastructure and rigging and stage machinery systems design.
  • Oversee team coordination.
  • Maintain strong client relationships.
  • Assist in preparing documentation and presentation materials.
  • Guide successful project completion.
  • Manage and lead design efforts for larger and more complex projects with increased autonomy and responsibility.
  • Develop new projects regularly.
  • Prepare proposals under Partner or Principal supervision.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to staff.
