About The Position

Schuler Shook is seeking a creative and detail-oriented lighting designer with strong client management, technical, and project management skills. This role can be filled at either the Project Lighting Designer or Senior Lighting Designer level, depending on the candidate's experience and ability to work independently. Schuler Shook is an internationally recognized firm specializing in lighting design, theatre planning, and audio-video design, with projects worldwide. While candidates based in Chicago are preferred, strong candidates in other US locations will also be considered.

Ability to manage time and project deadlines well.
Approximately 5-8 years of prior experience as a lighting designer in a similar position.
Previous client engagement experience.
Ability to represent Schuler Shook positively in client and industry settings.
Ability to communicate design ideas visually and verbally.
Skilled user of Photoshop, AGI32, Revit, and Bluebeam.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
Ability to meet client deadlines.
Strong organizational skills.
Attention to detail.
Personal initiative.
Understanding of architectural lighting design.

Nice To Haves

Experience in InDesign, LightStanza, ElumTools, Enscape, or 3ds Max.

Responsibilities

Serve as a Project Manager and lead contributor on a variety of lighting design projects.
Oversee project documentation and team coordination.
Maintain strong client relationships.
Assist in preparing proposals under Partner or Principal supervision.
Manage larger and more complex projects with increasing autonomy (at the Senior level).
Develop new projects regularly (at the Senior level).
Provide guidance to more junior staff (at the Senior level).
