•$85,000 - $95,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Honey Homes is seeking a Project Scoping Specialist to join their Large Projects team. This role is responsible for the initial stages of larger home projects, including member consultations, scoping, and estimating. The Project Scoping Specialist will conduct virtual scoping calls, build and submit detailed estimates within 24 hours, and manage the project pipeline. This position is ideal for individuals with hands-on construction experience who enjoy working with homeowners and are adept at using modern tools, including AI, for estimating. The role requires a customer-forward approach, strong organizational skills, and the ability to own the outcome of projects from initial contact to a signed agreement. The goal is to make home maintenance effortless for members by accurately scoping, pricing, and preparing projects for the construction crews.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on residential construction, remodeling, handyman, or home-improvement experience.
  • Ability to assess photos and video walkthroughs of decks, fences, bathrooms, or siding to identify tasks, sequence, materials, and potential issues.
  • Working knowledge of home maintenance and repair, including common project methods, requirements, and potential problems.
  • Experience producing written scopes or estimates with labor hours and materials.
  • Experience with photo- or video-based estimating is ideal.
  • A customer-forward style: ability to put homeowners at ease on camera, ask effective questions, listen actively, and represent the company with warmth and credibility.
  • Comfort owning the outcome of projects, building homeowner confidence, handling questions about process and price, and guiding undecided members to a confident yes.
  • Consultative approach, not high-pressure sales.
  • Outstanding written communication skills for clear scopes and detailed notes.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple open projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain a 24-hour turnaround time for estimates.
  • Decisiveness in ambiguous situations: ability to quickly determine project routing (remote quote, in-person visit, referral, decline) and explain the reasoning.
  • High agency and a bias toward ownership: proactively follow projects through to a decision and address slow processes.
  • Comfort learning and using AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT), CRM software, and estimating software.

Nice To Haves

  • Having run your own trade or contracting business, where you scoped, priced, and sold the work yourself.
  • Experience at a fast-growing, operationally complex company.
  • Experience at a small contractor where you wore several hats.

Responsibilities

  • Run virtual scoping calls with homeowners to understand project scope and member intent.
  • Capture project details, including scope, member's desired outcome, timeline, and budget drivers.
  • Define project scope, including what is in and out of scope, and measure quantities for accurate pricing.
  • Build and submit complete estimates within 24 hours, including written scope, quantities, labor hours, crew details, materials, and price.
  • Utilize the company's pricing framework and estimate tools.
  • Turn around estimate revisions on the same day.
  • Determine if a project can be priced remotely, requires an in-person visit, or needs a specialist.
  • Schedule in-person visits with the member success team when necessary.
  • Politely decline projects that are not a good fit and provide a clear reason.
  • Manage the scoping stages of the project pipeline in the CRM, ensuring leads have next steps and owners.
  • Maintain a clean and current pipeline with no completed scoping calls waiting on estimates for more than one business day.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for members from the scoping call to a signed agreement.
  • Build member confidence, explain estimates and tradeoffs, and assist members in making decisions.
  • Conduct follow-up directly with members who are on the fence to help them move forward.
  • Prepare and hand off a job brief to construction crews upon estimate acceptance, including scope, measurements, materials, member preferences, and access notes.
  • Use AI tools like Claude to structure call notes, draft scopes from transcripts, and create templates.
  • Actively experiment with new tools, including AI, video, and measurement tools, to improve remote scoping accuracy and efficiency.
  • Contribute to the development of a scoping playbook by identifying recurring project patterns and helping create standard pricing and scoping templates.
  • Identify problems in the scoping process, propose fixes, and follow through on implementation.

Benefits

  • Membership that makes maintaining a home effortless
  • Dedicated handyman for proactive home care
  • Opportunity to work on larger projects like exterior repaints, deck and fence rebuilds, siding and dry-rot repair, bathroom updates, and built-ins
  • Use of modern tools, including AI, to enhance estimating speed and accuracy
  • Hybrid work model: 3-4 days per week in Oakland headquarters, or remote for non-CA candidates
  • Opportunity to shape how a growing team scopes remotely, prices consistently, and hands work to the field
  • Ability to build the playbook, templates, and tools that will define future processes
