About The Position

Carnegie Mellon University's Human-Computer Interaction Institute (HCII) is seeking a Project Scientist to join a project focused on developing new tools to augment designer and engineer creativity using analogical reasoning. This project explores the use of contemporary AI systems, such as large language models and text-to-image generators, to create interactive systems that aid in idea generation through sketching, brainstorming, and space navigation. The role involves designing and testing new systems using realistic design tasks within a dynamic research environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 5-8 years of research experience required.
  • Excellent communication, project management and analytical skills.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • A combination of education and proven experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Writing documentation, technical papers, progress reports and participating in meetings/committees.
  • Lead research efforts within main goals of project, and help coordinate interactions with other team members and universities.
  • Acts as team leader, providing project management direction
  • Contributor in developing and documenting research findings and collaborator in writing scientific papers
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Propose and lead independent research goals within scope of projects.
