About The Position

Onterris is seeking a Project Scientist/Geologist/Engineer for their Brownfields & Community Revitalization Practice. This role is based in Alaska and focuses on assisting communities with brownfield redevelopment and revitalization goals. The position involves supporting environmental site assessment and remediation projects within Alaska, including securing funding, grant management, community outreach, stakeholder engagement, and executing various environmental assessment and restoration activities. The company emphasizes a mission of 'For Planet and Progress,' integrating environmental responsibility with human progress. This is a remote position open to candidates based in Alaska.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geology, or an associated science or a combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience planning, executing, and/or overseeing Phase I/II ESAs, remediation, and/or site-specific reuse and/or area-wide Planning activities.
  • Experience with multi-media sampling (i.e., soil, groundwater, soil vapor, surface water, sediment, etc.).
  • Experience with conducting remedial/construction oversight, confirmatory sampling, air monitoring, and documentation.
  • Capable of executing physical demands associated with typical environmental field duties as verified through an annual physical examination.
  • Must have a basic understanding of geologic and environmental principles and their application to field circumstances and be able to collect and synthesize geologic and environmental data in the field.
  • Able to learn and deploy commonly used field equipment such as water quality meters, sampling equipment, and air monitoring equipment.
  • Able to learn and deploy GPS location equipment in the field to record pertinent locations.
  • Exhibit discretion and good judgment and always maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, demonstrate organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite and other computer-aided software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Adobe Acrobat, ArcGIS, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 1910.120 training preferred, but not mandatory – we will provide OSHA training to meet the requirements of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, executing, and/or overseeing Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), remediation, and/or site-specific reuse and/or area-wide planning/design activities.
  • Assisting with project fieldwork throughout Alaska, including site reconnaissance, brownfield inventories, soil, groundwater, soil vapor, surface water and other media sampling, and remediation at various locations.
  • Collecting field data in an organized and concise manner, consistent with corporate and client standard operating procedures and work plans.
  • Exercising safe work practices by following all Onterris and client safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs.
  • Supervision of subconsultants and subcontractors in the field.
  • Consulting with senior staff to prepare work plans and technical reports, data interpretation, and development of graphical presentations.
  • Exercising judgment in the evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Responsible for project budget and hours and utilizing time effectively to complete tasks within the assigned timeframe(s).
  • Communicating to leadership when issues arise that may inhibit performing tasks within the allotted schedule and budget.
  • Assisting with project management/grant administration for multiple grant-funded projects.
  • Grant application support, including assisting senior grant writers with preparing and submitting grant applications.
  • Additional duties as may be assigned.

Benefits

  • The annual salary range for this role is $85,000-$120,000 per year, commensurate with accomplishments, performance, and credentials.
