About The Position

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Join us as we build a knowledgeable and collaborative team that courageously changes how transit projects will be delivered. Our CPG – GO/UP is hiring multiple Project Managers to join the team! This role will provide technical expertise and administration of planning, engineering, design, and construction of transit infrastructure projects. The Project Manager will provide site presence, conduct site walks, verify progress, and document conditions. As well, assist with RFI and submittal processing and maintain workflow continuity during transition periods and supporting with documentation needs.

Requirements

  • Completion of a degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Business, Architecture or a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in managing projects involving planning, design, construction, and commissioning of large scale and complex industrial, commercial, or institutional works.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and experience to manage complex, projects under pressure to meet schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of contract law, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, and construction standards and procedures applicable to operating Railway environment.
  • Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation and strong communication skills to liaise with all levels within the organization and on construction sites.
  • A valid Ontario Class G driver’s license is required to travel to various site locations regularly. Must meet and maintain the corporate standard for a good driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant experience in transit facilities, heavy Railway infrastructure, bridges, structures, and related works is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes, particularly Design and Build/Joint Venture, Construction Manager at Risk would be an asset, in order to identify opportunities for improvements and cost savings, and budget management skills to plan and monitor departmental budgets.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification; Certified Engineering Technician (CET), Licensed Architect (OAA) designations or P.Eng. designation (or partial completion) is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple complex projects from planning stages through construction, commissioning and closeout, consistent with corporate commitments (budget, schedule, quality, risk etc.).
  • Manage contract compliance, changes, monthly billings and contractor performance throughout construction.
  • Monitor and inspect daily construction activities to ensure work is completed as per workplans, specifications and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate the tender and award of contracts, property requests for acquisitions, purchase orders, change orders for supply/construction contracts and addenda for consultant assignments.
  • Manage projects involving effective coordination and liaison with a large number of internal and external stakeholders – including other areas of the CPG and other Metrolinx departments, municipal partners, third parties and Railways.
  • Review consultant proposals and develop recommendations for proposed projects consistent with strategic plan and business objectives
  • Support project strategies while providing technical leadership and oversight, ensuring design activities are developed and delivered to project targets.
  • Implements standards and manages critical paths/milestones, by monitoring mechanisms for projects (e.g. budget, schedule, scope, quality); regularly reports to Director on project status
