About The Position

Masdar is seeking a Project Manager to lead the safe, compliant, and commercially disciplined delivery of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects from financial close through construction, commissioning, and handover to Asset Management. The role is accountable for programme, cost, quality, contractual compliance, and grid integration. It manages EPC, BoP, BESS OEM, ICP, and key subcontractors to deliver projects in accordance with Masdar governance, UK regulatory frameworks, and project-specific performance requirements. The position operates within Masdar’s centralised BESS Delivery vertical and contributes to improvements in governance, procurement strategy, and delivery standards across the portfolio. Applicants should be UK-based and already have the right to work in the UK.

Requirements

5–10 years’ experience delivering utility-scale energy infrastructure.
Direct experience with BESS projects, HV substations (33kV–132kV+), EPC contract administration, and grid-connected assets.
Experience working under UK CDM regulations.
Strong exposure to electrical BoP and OEM integration.
Strong commercial acumen and advanced programme management capability.
Ability to challenge EPC/OEM contractors effectively and apply structured risk management.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
Professional resilience, analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant QHSE software, such as environmental management systems software.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
APM PMQ, PRINCE2, or equivalent project management qualification.
SMSTS or equivalent construction qualification.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills specifically managing digitalisation and data analytics.
Proactive and results-oriented approach; ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end delivery of assigned BESS projects through construction and commissioning.
Act as Client Representative under EPC/BoP contracts and ensure compliance with programme, technical specifications, Employer’s Requirements, and grid connection agreements.
Manage Principal Contractor performance under CDM Regulations and coordinate civil, electrical BoP, HV, BESS integrator, and ICP interfaces.
Identify project risks, implement mitigation strategies, and escalate critical issues with recovery plans.
Administer EPC/BoP/BESS contracts in accordance with Delegation of Authority; review contractor payment applications; assess variations, compensation events, and claims; monitor contingency and forecast final cost; and protect Masdar’s commercial position.
Track baseline against actual programme, protect the critical path, implement recovery strategies, maintain RAG-status risk registers, and coordinate contractor early-warning mechanisms.
Oversee detailed design development and technical compliance, including integration of BESS containers and PCS, 33kV/132kV substations, grid transformers, protection and control schemes, SCADA, communications, and cyber security requirements.
Ensure grid code compliance and witness FAT/SAT where required.
Oversee commissioning strategy and energisation readiness, coordinate with Asset Management, validate performance testing and contractual guarantees, and secure complete and compliant handover documentation.
Produce structured monthly reports covering programme, commercial status, risk, HSE, and key decisions required.
Comply with Masdar governance, audit, and procurement processes and contribute to continuous improvement of BESS Delivery standards.
Ensure compliance with UK CDM Regulations, grid operator requirements, environmental and planning conditions, and Masdar QHSE standards; promote a strong safety culture.
Facilitate knowledge transfer to field management and collaborate effectively with colleagues and project stakeholders.
