This is a time-limited position tied to a specific project, anticipated to last approximately two to three years, contingent upon the completion of the project associated with opening the new Central State Hospital and decommissioning the existing facility. Employment will conclude at the close of the project or when the position is no longer required. This role does not create an expectation of continued employment beyond the project period. The Project Manager supports the Chief Operations Officer (COO) in the oversight, coordination, and execution of activities related to the completion, activation, and operational transition into a new hospital facility. This position serves as a central liaison among executive leadership, construction teams, clinical and non-clinical departments, regulatory agencies, vendors, and community stakeholders to ensure a safe, compliant, and seamless transition to the new facility with ongoing responsibility for leading activities to monitor and adjust where needed for operational success. The project manager must possess a broad understanding of and experience with hospital construction, or comparable complex infrastructure (e.g., prisons, data centers, large public facilities), and be able to work with multidisciplinary groups to achieve the objective. Central State Hospital (CSH) is a 277-bed Joint Commission accredited psychiatric inpatient facility located in Petersburg, Virginia, serving citizens of the Commonwealth since 1870. A new and modern CSH is currently under construction on the same property. CSH maintains the only maximum-security treatment facility in the state (111 beds) and has 166 beds for individuals in the community needing inpatient care, as well as individuals in the criminal justice system. The facility believes that treatment should be holistic and focused on the person’s individual needs, recognizing that recovery is not linear or the same for every person. Treatment modalities may include medication, evidence-based group and individual therapy, peer support, psychosocial rehabilitation, vocational training, preparation for court, and treatment for substance use.
