About The Position

SubCom is seeking a Project Manager to deliver large-scale undersea telecommunication projects, aiming to meet or exceed original budgets. The role functions as a P/L center, focusing on increasing margin through project savings, upselling, and contract variations. Project Managers are expected to align project strategies with company goals and manage projects through all phases, including engineering, production, installation, and testing, by leading cross-functional teams. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, both internally and with customers, as well as the ability to identify and mitigate risks, handle ambiguity, and adapt to new plans and changes while minimizing company risk. The Project Manager will be the primary customer contact for negotiations, decision-making, scheduling, and problem-solving, monitoring and reporting performance against plans to ensure contractual, cost, and schedule objectives are met. Duties include managing budgets and schedules, serving as a liaison for cross-functional teams (engineering, procurement, sales, production, finance, marine, quality), and issuing customer commercial notices. Ensuring team awareness of project strategy, objectives, risks, and mitigations is crucial. Requirements

  • Experience in negotiations, managing the P/L of projects, strategy development/implementation, risk management, and contract management is a must.
  • Experience in managing large cross-functional projects or leading a team on undersea or construction projects.
  • Understanding of contract language.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems within own position, across organizations, and with customers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required.
  • BA/BS degree in an Engineering, Business, or technical discipline.
  • Up to 5 years related work experience.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects while meeting contractual and organizational commitments.
  • Excellent communication, verbal, presentation and written skills.
  • Ability to work well in matrix-style teams with persons from different organizations, job types and cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong leadership qualities and the ability to complete assignments with little supervisory oversight.
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills at all levels from the shop floor to top management, including the ability to speak, read and write fluently in English.
  • Strong team leader, ability to think strategically and execute tactically to deliver results.
  • Analytically, data-driven and a problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to have a holistic overview of complex situations and flexibility to deal effectively with difficult issues when they arise.
  • Must have experience with the efficient uses of office tools such as MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.
  • Must be able to lead and communicate in both face-to-face and virtual environments.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Project Manager for projects specific to the Undersea Telecommunications Industry, working with internal teams (Project Management, Quality, Reliability, Finance, Operations, and Marine Services).
  • Manage the P/L of projects, including increasing margin and revenue.
  • Develop project strategy to increase revenue/margin.
  • Develop risk analysis and project strategy to mitigate and reduce risks to SubCom.
  • Negotiate project changes.
  • Manage contracts, including terms and conditions, technical requirements, scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Manage the customer relationship, project notices, and project changes.
  • Establish and meet project objectives by analyzing contract deliverables and collaborating with project team members.
  • Achieve financial objectives on the project and review/understand variances.
  • Inform the leadership team of key project issues.
  • Promote a culture that reflects SubCom’s values, encourages outstanding performance, and promotes a positive work environment, strengthening regional team spirit within and across other functions.
