About The Position

At David Nice Builders, we craft construction masterpieces through integrity, enduring relationships, and passionate people. Nicewood Enterprises, our architectural millwork division, takes that standard into a specialized world where precision fabrication meets exacting client expectations. We’re looking for a driven, detail-oriented Project Manager to own complex millwork projects from first drawing to final delivery. About Nicewood Nicewood is DNB’s architectural millwork division, part of a four-division commercial construction company with roughly 170 employees headquartered in Virginia. We design, fabricate, and deliver custom millwork for commercial clients across the region, operating at the intersection of manufacturing precision and construction coordination. This is not a theoretical project management role. You will be on the floor, in the drawings, on the phone with architects and contractors, and at the dock when product ships. Position Overview The Project Manager at Nicewood is the primary point of contact for every project in their portfolio, responsible for taking a job from initial planning through fabrication, shipping, and delivery. You will coordinate with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors on the outside, and work directly with our CAD engineers, production manager, and shop floor on the inside. You will own the schedule, the budget, the drawings, and the outcome. This is a role for someone who thrives on complexity and accountability. Multiple projects, competing priorities, technical detail, and client relationships will all be yours to manage simultaneously. If you have been the person keeping a project on track behind the scenes and are ready to carry the title that matches the work, we want to hear from you.

Requirements

  • Project coordination or management experience in architectural millwork, custom fabrication, commercial construction, or a closely related field. If you understand how a shop drawing becomes a finished product, that foundation matters more to us than your job title.
  • The ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, and engineering documents. You do not need to be a drafter, but you need to be fluent in the language of technical drawings.
  • Hands-on schedule ownership. You have managed timelines, tracked milestones, and made the calls needed to keep a project moving when things shift.
  • Procurement and vendor management experience. You know how to solicit and evaluate quotes, manage lead times, and keep material flow aligned with production.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. You will represent Nicewood to architects, contractors, and clients. Clarity and professionalism are non-negotiable.
  • Technical proficiency with AutoCAD or similar design software, and comfort working in project management and office productivity tools.
  • A compliance and quality mindset. Accuracy in documentation, adherence to scope, and attention to fabrication standards are core to how we operate.
  • Organizational discipline under pressure. Multiple concurrent projects with competing deadlines is the baseline here, not the exception.

Nice To Haves

  • An experienced Project Manager from an architectural millwork, casework, or custom fabrication environment ready to bring your full capability to a company that takes craftsmanship seriously.
  • A Project Assistant, shop coordinator, or production coordinator who has been managing the details of complex projects and is ready to own the full PM role formally.
  • A construction professional, estimator, or field coordinator with strong technical drawing fluency and fabrication exposure who is ready to make the transition into a manufacturing-side PM role.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary client contact across the full project lifecycle, from drawing review and technical clarification through fabrication milestones and delivery.
  • Collaborate with our CAD engineers to oversee shop drawing production, review and maintain updated drawing sets, and ensure all documents reflect current client specifications.
  • Develop project schedules in coordination with the Production Manager, identify long-lead procurement items early, and monitor milestones to keep every project on track.
  • Build and manage detailed project budgets, including material costs, labor estimates, and vendor pricing. Track expenditures and flag variances before they become problems.
  • Conduct site visits to capture field dimensions, validate architectural plans, and confirm specifications directly with architects and contractors.
  • Perform regular shop floor walkthroughs to verify fabrication quality and confirm work in progress matches scope and drawings.
  • Coordinate all shipping logistics, including hands-on involvement in loading preparation when the schedule demands it.
  • Manage change orders, scope adjustments, and client-initiated revisions with clear documentation and stakeholder communication throughout.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package.
